I would support your family all the way! And I'd endorse Alexander (popular, but with so many nn possibilities that it can cope) and Matilda - they make me think of the kind of Scottish royalty in the Middle Ages who could do the velvet and the crowns but were just as happy stalking deer on a windswept hillside.
That said, there are gazillions of names out there, looking for a good home.
