I live in the US, and I pronounce it "mo-REES". I don't think pronouncing it like Morris makes sense.

Well, if you think of Alice and Maurice then it does make more sense, no? I'm in the U.S. and pronounce it the same way you do. But I can definitely see Maurice's simiarlity to Morris.
