Athena and Hector have welcomed a daughter to their unconventional family. The couple still primarily lives at the College of Mages in their personal apartments, often leaving little Prince Apollo and baby Artemis in the care of the nursemaids in the castle to continue their training. They are fierce couple, both immensely talented and greatly skilled, powerful enough for neighboring countries to take Kriana's College of Mages much more seriously. Hermione is very proud of her eldest daughter, who reminds her very much of the young woman who rode into war all those years ago. Athena and Hector's marriage is still going strong, united as they are in their love of magic. Earlier this year, the young couple received a letter from Hector's father, the King of Dakla, requesting that they come and stay at the Daklan Court for awhile. They set out for the long journey with their two small children in tow and have been in Dakla ever since. The Daklans are less encouraging of magical education than Krianans, and most magicals in Dakla know only basic spells for housekeeping, farming, and self-defense. As such, their new duchess is a bit intimidating for many Daklans, with her bright violet eyes streaked with silver. The Queen is especially wary of Athena (who has more magical ability in her toenail than the Queen does in her entire body) and is openly critical of her daughter-in-law among the ladies of Court. The Queen has even started the practice of calling Athena's children Henri and Honorine rather than Apollo and Artemis, and most of the Court now calls the little children "Prince Henri et Princesse Honorine." Hector is upset with his mother, but Athena has decided to let it go. Hector's brother the Crown Prince has recently proposed to the princess of a nearby country, who is expected to accept any day now.
Leda and Castor have both completed their healing training and are working as a team of healers. They are a very sweet couple, gentle and loving with each other, and were very happy to learn they were expecting their first child. Their daughter Persephone has dark blonde hair and her father's soft green eyes. They have taken some time off from healing to recuperate from the birth and spend time with their newborn. Leda misses her older sister, since they had grown closer during their pregnancies.
Melaina is not a little girl anymore. She has become one of the most prominent social figures at Court among the youth, and even had a part in arranging her cousin Dominic's engagement to one of her friends, Cecilia. Melaina likes Cecilia very much and is happy that her favorite cousin gets to marry a pleasant girl like Cecilia. Melaina herself has grown into quite the coquette, and flirts with many of the young (and not-so-young) men at Court. She has lost focus on her love of sewing and replaced it with a love of dancing and staying up too late. Hermione and William were worried about her behavior, and became even more worried when one of Dominic's friends, Damon, proposed to her. Melaina was delighted and accepted without consulting her parents, who hesitantly have allowed plans for Melaina's wedding to carry on. They hope that the preparations for the wedding will calm Melaina's flirty side and get her back on track on her ambition to be a dressmaker.
Robert and Leon have become good friends in the course of the last few years. He continues to do well in school and still enjoys riding and hunting with his father, uncles, and cousins. He has expressed interest in attending the military academy when he has finished at Hermione and William's school, and though Hermione and William are afraid to see their noble little boy grow up, William believes it is a good idea.
Niobe is excelling under Aunt Ari's wing, and loves learning about stealth and spying. She stays as close as possible to Callista, Nyx, Remus, and Patroklos, but they are all quite busy in their separate training programs. Niobe has grown apart somewhat from her brother Robert, but still loves him and spends time with him when possible. She has grown out of her tomboy stage and embraced Court dress, at first because of Ari's insistence that she learn how to move in a gown. Niobe still prefers simpler gowns for freer motion, but will wear her ornate gowns without a fight. She also thinks that Melaina is getting married much much too young and hates the way she has made herself into such a social butterfly. Niobe barely talks to Melaina anymore and often does not have time to speak to Athena or Leda.
Poor little Phaedra is eight years old but still has not started her magical training. She is still frail and weak, even when she is not actively ill. She spends most of her time in her private chambers, though she is well enough to attend classes at the academy. She does not have many friends, but her cousin Galen visits her and often brings their other cousins along to play cards or board games. Phaedra is very grateful for Galen, and also for Leda and Castor, who visit her as often as they can. William and Hermione are sad that their youngest daughter cannot have the same active and jubilant lifestyle as their other children, but they are happy she is still with them. They often buy Phaedra books and like to listen to her read them aloud. She has a very pretty voice, and Hermione has recently asked the music teacher at the academy to give Phaedra private singing lessons.
