It's gorgeous. I don't think it's too popular in the U.S. It ranked #299 in 2010. I wouldn't use it as a first name if I lived in Australia, though. It ranked #56. I try to avoid top 100 names.
Poison Ivy jokes are a possibility, yes, but I don't see it as all that bad. I could see someone using Poison Ivy as a roller derby name or something of that sort. I used to know a girl in middle school named Iris, and she didn't seem fazed when she was called Iris the Virus. I think she may have even called herself that sometimes. If I were named Ivy and someone called me Poison Ivy, I'd say and think, "Is that really the worst you can come up with?"
