[Opinions] Raven
Met a little girl (3) in my daughter's gymnastics class today. WDYT? It's pretty but maybe too gothic sounding to me. This Raven's mother was not remotely goth though, more preppy!

I had a friend Raven growing up, he was a boy. So it's always been really masculine to me. I think I would have that same feeling even if I didn't know Ray though because of the bird (and the football team), just seems like a better namesake for a boy.
I used to really like it, but now I think it sounds a bit too gothic. I think this name would sound strange on a blonde haired or red haired child; it would suit someone with dark brown or black hair.
I've always liked Raven. I think it IS a little goth, but not too much so. It works.
I still think of goths whenever I hear the name Ravnn, or sometimes strippers and porn stars. I'm sure this little Raven is a sweet girl, though!

I love it! There is an adorable little girl named Raven who goes to my church -- she's 4, I think. I wish I knew her middle name, but Raven fits her perfectly - she has dark, dark brown hair and really pale skin and blue eyes. She is a very positive association with the name. But also I think it is actually a pretty versatile name - I can imagine girls and women with lots of different personalities and looks named Raven. It would be a little weird on a blonde though.
I kinda like it
I like Raven as a GP. It does sound kind of goth. I would only use it as the name of a black pet.
I don't think it's gothy! I've met 4 Raven's and one of them was 'gothy' but I don't think the name brings to mind that automatically!
I think its super cute, and a fabulous 'nature' name!

The first time I heard Raven used for a name was a soap opera character. And she wasn't a nice soap opera character. So that's colored the name for me ever since. If I liked the name at all I could work to overcome it, as I almost have with Eden. But ravens scare me a little* so I'm not going to put in the effort.
But at least it wasn't spelled creatively. Or was it? Do you know?
* We have many around our house. I swear they are so smart they've figured out the cross walk sign at the local intersection. My dh is with me in the car and sees it too so it's not just me. They. Scare. Me. Their bada$$ black leather jackets don't help.

Do you mean Raven from Edge of Night?!
Yes. I didn't follow that soap very closely -- I was more of an All my Children / General Hospital buff. But a lot of my friends did so I picked up on a few of the story lines. It's been years since I've thought of any of them. :-)
I was a kid and my mom watched EoN. It was on after I got home from school so I followed it for a while. All I remember now is Raven getting mad at Schuyler before their wedding, and her knocking the groom figurine off her wedding cake with an evil grin. It was one of the funnier soaps, I think. That was the first time I heard Raven as a name, too... but I liked her.
No, I don't know and wish I did. Hopefully it's just Raven!
