I find it kind of funny that they don't at all mind to use Elvis, who I'd imagine most people there would immediately associate with Elvis Presley. Here I've never heard of an Elvis because there is only one Elvis! People would avoid a name with such a strong association for the most part.

Well, the usage started when Elvis Presley was popular and it was probably considered a good namesake (and since he's not from here, it was not a problem).
Now the name is so common that it's lost it's original association. Everyone knows at least one Elvis in real life (for example I went to primary school with one, and there's a famous actor, a singer and and a few TV reporters/presenters named Elvis, etc.).

The only other Elvis I've heard of in real life is the organist at my parents' church. So there is a musical connection to their lives I suppose! I know he's African (but not sure what country). I guess his parents were big fans.
