[Opinions] Oona
My husband surprised me by picking Oona out on a large list of girl possibilities for our first baby coming in August. It hasn't even been on my radar. Do you think Oona is usable/too over the top? What do you think of these combos: (Last name is Young)Oona Vivienne
Oona Josephine
Oona Colette
Oona Rosalind
Oona Roxanne
Oona Martine
Oona Elizabeth
Oona Jacqueline
Oona Marilyn
Oona Frances
Oona Beatrice

I like Oona. It's memorable and wacky and most people hate it, just my cup of tea. It is totally over the top, no denying, so you have to be comfortable with that. Don't even try to pretend that Oona is a Julia or Chloe or Emma. She's not and never will be. She's Oona. You will get a lot of funny looks and stupid comments about it, so you must be Oona's champion and defend her honour. Those combos are great. I really like Oona Frances and Oona Vivienne.

I appreciate its quirkiness and that it isn't a typical name, but I don't care for the way Oona looks. I used to dislike the sound of it, but it grew on me a bit after reading Ahab's Wife, which has a main character named Una. I prefer the look of Una to Oona.Out of your combos, Oona Vivienne is my favorite followed by Oona Colette and Oona Rosalind.

The spelling Oona doesn't look right to me. Una, however, is beautiful (as well as the original spelling). Una Rosalind and Una Elizabeth are perfect.

Oona is a great name! I would personally never use it, but I like it!Oona Jacqueline, Oona Martine, & Oona Vivienne are gorgeous.

It's okay, but not really my style.

Hey - I thought I was the only one who adored this name! Most people seem to prefer the spelling Una, but to me Oona seems more aesthetically pleasing and elegant. Great choice:)I think these combos flow best:
Oona Vivienne - stunning, and I love how letters are repeated in both names, very cool
Oona Josephine
Oona Frances

I find Oona terrible. The oo reminds me of ooze. And it sounds like "ew". Definitely not a fan. Your combos are pretty good, as far as that goes. My favorites are
Oona Josephine
Oona Rosalind
Oona Jacqueline
Oona FrancesGood luck

I love Oona, not Una but Oona.I love your middle names with her. The only exceptions are Frances and Marilyn, Oona makes them seem bland I think. My favorites are Oona Vivienne, Oona Colette, Onna Martine and Oona Josephine. I would suggest:
Oona Augustine (because she is due in August after all!)
Oona Hermione (Llewella is a genious!)
Oona Josette
Oona Claudine
Oona Azalea
Oona Almondine

I seem to be in the minority herebut I can't stand Oona. It has a very unpleasant sound - ew. The double oo makes me think of ooze. Even spelled Una it still has the ew sound and looks like a mispelled Luna. It doesn't sound serious to me. Sorry but Oona/Una is always a name that I can't figure out why people would name their children. It's sounds awful imo. I think I would hate being named that.Oona, dos, tres - yea makes me think of that too

You're notI usually fall head over heels for Irish names, but this one just doesn't strike my fancy. It's not pretty looking and sounds really silly. Reminds me of a boy I knew in Jr. High named Onie.

Agree, I want to like it... but I just can't.

You pretty much hit all the reasons I don't like it, either. Everyone else at another forum I post at loves it, too, and I can't figure it out. Spelled Una, it'd be acceptable to me (just not my taste). Anything beginning with "Oo" is just weird. OoooOOOooOOoOo...

Yes!All I see is a misspelled Luna!

I don't like it that much, either, especially when it's sp Oona. Admittedly, Una isn't much better. Oona/Una is just an odd-sounding name in general.

I definitely think Una/Oona is usable.I really like this name, but only spelled Una. I think Una has such a nice look to it, whereas I really dislike the look of Oona. (I can't stand the capital 'O' and small 'o' next to each other!)I like these combos: Oona Josephine, Oona Frances, Oona Beatrice.

I *love* Oona. Sounds like the name of a witty, untameable flapper to me.My favorite combo is Oona Roxanne.

Yay Oona!I think it's so much fun! I can see it seeming funny to people because of the Oo. An Oona might get people saying Ooooona, or ooh, Oona, or something like that. You might be safer spelling it Una, but then it's not as much fun (though still gorgeous).Oona Vivienne, Oona Josephine, Oona Martine, Oona Elizabeth, Oona Jacqueline, and Oona Frances are my favorites of those combos, but they're all quite nice. My favorite Oona combo is Oona Hermione, but that's probably over-the-top for real life!

Oona Hermione is over-the-top AWESOME:D

I adore Oona. It's been on my list for yearsOut of your list i thinkOona Roxanne or Oona Beatrice are best, they add a bit of edge to the spunky but feminine Oona

Oh goodness, I love OonaIt's gorgeous, but it's also a very comforting and gentle name to me. I find solace in it, and yet I find there's something slightly intoxicating about it.I'm never a good person to come to for the usability question, because I always say a name's usable (provided its spelling and pronunciation are somewhat intuitive to the family's primary language, and it doesn't have a terrible association that everyone thinks of immediately). So, yes, I'd say Oona is usable. Unusual, but she'd get by I think. :) Sometimes, to reaffirm this, I search for the name on Facebook to see how many people with the name are on there. Helps to humanize it, I think. From your combos, I think the best ones are:Oona Vivienne (Vivienne emphasizes how striking Oona is)
Oona Colette
Oona Rosalind
Oona JacquelineBasically, I like Oona paired with a MN that has a bit of dramatic flair, KWIM?

I absolutely adore this name! It was on my list for both my first and second pregnancy. Hubby vetoed it both times :( So, no, I don't think it is over the top at all. It is also pretty cool that your hubby selected it :)I also like almost all of your MNs.My favorites are:
Oona Vivienne
Oona Josephine
Oona BeatriceI think they flow well. But you can't go wrong with any of those MNs. They are all lovely. I chose three just because I had to narrow down my favorites from your list LOL
