I never read or heard something in this direction, and I never encountered such "y" given names. On the other hand, I more or less deal only with contemporary given names.

Are you sure that the names mentioned, like Jacoby, are really *first* names? Today at least Jacoby seems to be a fairly common *family* name in Germany.
