If I were you I'd look at the popular names in the area where he'll grow up. If you see Hayden/Caden/Jaden, Tristan, and Rowan are doing well, it'll fit right in (all those are unisex usages sometimes these days). Besides, he can go by Shan as a kid (I think it sounds more specifically "boy" anyway) until he becomes a man and determines the gender of his name himself by wearing it securely.

I have a male cousin named Shannon, he's only a few months old, so I think it can definitly be used as a male's name.

Shannon is a name for both genders IMO. I like it-- I think it sounds very masculine, too. If you have a very Irish surname it works even better. It just might take more explaining than a name like William or Jake.

I would probably prefer it on a boy, but am sure most people will think it is a girls name. Maybe the spelling Shannen?

I think that Shannon is a great name for a boy. In fact, it is among my favorites for a boy (and one that I would actually consider using if I had a boy in the future). Go for it!

It depends. If you give him a very masculine boys name, you might be able to pull it off. The other option is to use Shane.

I went to high school with a boy named Shannon. I think it's nicer for a boy.

I prefer it for a boy; I don't even like it on girls, actually.

I love it for a boy. You might get a hard time from friends and family, but they'll get over it. I think most adults will recognise that it is originally a boy name. Plus, it sounds so masculine.

I think you really could! I've known very masculine boys named Ashley & Kelly and besides people are constantly using boys names for girls so I think it's time to take back some names that were original boys names! :)

I deffinately like Shannon better on a boy, it gives a fresh new face to it. And it rather sounds like Sean (which has been used for girls lately) but it wouldn't be at all as popular as Sean! :)

I think you can get away with it. I know a few male Shannon's so I think you'll be able to get away with it. And I think I've heard a few people comment that they like Shannon on a boy better.

I have met 3-4 male Shannons in my life. I think it's used primarily for girls nowadays, but it's not an extremely common name either way. So I think you could "get away with" using it for a boy. :b

Shannon can be used for either gender imo, I've known both male and female Shannon's. In fact I have a male cousin-in-law named Shannon.
