[Opinions] Declan
What do you think of Declan? Can you see it working on a girl?

I can see it being used on a girl because of the "lyn" sound at the end - I personally don't thing it would work but I can see a lot of people accepting it. I am not a fan of Declan though - it is quite dated here and the nicknames are all ugly; Dec, Deccie, Decco.
I do quite fancy Deaglán though.

No...
I like the name Declan very much, but it's a boy's name. It seems silly and contrived on a girl to me.

I love Declan. But no not on a girl, please don't make this name unisex too. Declan is all male

Can I see it working on a girl? ABSOLUTELY NOT
As a male name, it's ok I guess - seems a bit clunky to me

I can't see it working on a girl, myself. There was a large family living near mine when I was growing up, and the eldest brother was Declan. So I just think of it as a man-name, sort of similar to Brendan. It's not really my style, but I think it's decent, and fashionable in a similar way to the way that names like Brian, Dylan, and Brendan have been in the past. Those don't work on a girl, either, IMO. I don't think a "lynn"-like ending makes a name seem "enough like a girl name" to use for a girl. It needs something more than that, to seem female-suitable, to me.

I don't like it. I have trouble pronouncing it. And on a girl it would look ridiculous, considering that more and more boys are being named Declan.

Declan sounds like the kind of name a skinny, pale, troubled poet would have. It's okay, I suppose, though it's sufficiently artsy to border on pretentious. It would be terrible for a girl, however. Please let boys keep their own names!

I really like it for boys, but I'd hate to see another great boy name go to the girls. It's similar to trendy names for girls, such as Brooklyn, so it doesn't strike me as completely bizarre to see it given to girls. If I remember correctly, I encountered Decklyn or Decklynn as a girl's name once, which wasn't too thrilling, but I've seen worse.

I see Declan much the same way Llewella does and agree that it is a very masculine name. I would be saddened to see it used for girls.

Definitely would cringe if I ever saw it on a girl. I don't especially like it (though I don't dislike it, either), but it's certainly a masculine name. Rather than be ruggedly handsome or charmingly geeky as previous posters have mentioned, I see it as somewhere in the middle. Not rugged, but dashing and mischievous, and not geeky, but intelligent.

I like Declan. It seems like a very masculine name to me.

Oh please don't use Declan on a girl. It's such a ruggedly masculine name, and so handsome.

Declan is definitely a boys name for me. I can see someone changing it to Declanne or something to make it 'feminine'. urk.

....Oh, I didn't mean to suggest that I want to use it on a girl. It just seems to have many of the components that would also make it a girl name. Personally, I would not use the name for either gender.

It *does* have a few components that would make it feminine to modern ears (the -lan sound at the end being so similar to -lynn in particular). I don't see it as "ruggedly" masculine myself, just masculine. Like a shy, bespectacled boy who wins people over in a geeky sort of way.

I guess because I imagine it said with a brouge. The "lan" part sounds more like "lun' than like "lin".
If I was thinking of it in the waythat "most people" would say it, I can really see the difference. And I especially see the "lyn" thing.
I have the same feeling about Laughlin as I do for this name and they are using that on girls now :-(

I like it, but only for a boy. It could work on a girl, I guess, but it's too masculine, IMO.
