[Opinions] Nate
Could Nate work as a name on its own? I don't like Nathan or Nathaniel but I love Nate. Would everyone just presume it was short for Nathan or Nathaniel?Any combo ideas?

I love Nate too! I've been thinking about it...
and although I too am not that fond of Nathan or Nathaniel, I couldn't see myself using just Nate. It does seem like a nickname to me.I would probably go with Nathaniel. Even though I like the name Nathan better, I have a bad association with it.

I think it could work just fine on its own, even though I personally wouldn't use it by itself.

If Jack and Sam are used on their own, why not Nate? It's not one I care for myself, but if you don't care for Nathan or Nathaniel, going with just Nate makes sense. People tend to think that names that are usually nicknames are short for something, but I don't think it will be that big of a deal.Nate Oliver

It could, but he'd probably get asked constantly if he's name is short for Nathan or Nathaniel. Nate Michael

I would assume Nate was a nickname, as I believe would the general public, but I doubt you'd actually have people trying to address him by Nathan or Nathaniel. I suppose if I really wanted to use Nate as is and not have my child asked often what his full name is, I might put it in the mn slot...scratch that; can't think of any candidates for first name that flow with it. Okay, back to Nate in front:Nate Alexander
Nate Everett
Nate Frederick
Nate Maximilian
Nate Oliver
Nate WilliamETA: Just read the post mentioning Jonathan. I think Nate is a valid choice as a nickname for Jonathan.

Nate is far too nicknamey to work as a full name in my opinion. People would always be assuming it was short for Nathan or Nathaniel. As for combos...Nate Alexander
Nate Jonathan
Nate Sebastian
Nate Connor
Nate Leonidas
Nate Cornelius

LOL, I'm exactly the opposite. I love Nathan and Nathaniel but don't like Nate. HAHAHA. Honestly though, I think Nate is a nick name. If I met someone named Nate I would ask what it's short for.

I know a Jonathan that uses Nathan as a nn.imo Natan is too-nicknamey to work on it's own.

...is a nickname to me.

Though I do like Nate as a nickname, I don't think it would work very well as a given name. (But I don't like nicknames as given names, anyways.) I think everyone would automatically assume it's short for something, and I can imagine that would get annoying very quickly. Still, I'm going to give this combo thing a shot:Nate William
Nate Christopher
Nate Phineas
Nate Benjamin
Nate Vincent

I think it's fine as a name on it's own.I don't know where you're from, but here in the UK it's quite common to use a nickname without a full name - Jack, Alfie, Archie, Jake and Alex are all very popular as names on their own.

I think it's too nicknamey, and should have a full name. I think people would assume it was a nn, too. What about Ignatius? It could work as a nn for that.

I would assume it was short for Nathan or Nathaniel. I've never heard it be used on its own.I can't think of any combos right now- sorry.
