[Opinions] Lesser used names as nicknames?
I really love it when I meet someone with a nickname that goes with a name I would not just automatically assume it with. Or if it is a name that I assume is not really short for anything. Okay, so I was looking through my list and I have a few names I feel need a full name or a different nickname and these are the names I have been thinking about and the possible nicknames I would use... are they usable, do they make sense, what do you think, would you be happy to meet a ____ nicknamed _____?
-Declan nn Dex - I was thinking that if Rebecca can go down to Bex then why can't Declan go to Dex, I think I like it better than Dec.
-Mordecai nn Cai or Caius - I have always liked the name Mordecai, however, I think if I were to ever use it it would be a little bit difficult to not have a shorter form. The obvious in my mind is Cai, however what about Caius?
-Sullivan nn Van - I have a thing for the nickname Van, and Sullivan, so why not Van as a nickname instead of Sully, which only makes me think of the plane pilot from the Hudson River.
-Calliope nn Calla - Okay, I really like Calla, it just feels incomplete next to my favorite names, so what about Calliope nn Calla?
-Delphine nn Adele - Adele has a place in my heart but it again feels lacking with my other girls names, so I am really enjoying Delphine lately. Do you think it is too far of a stretch to use the nickname Adele?
-Severina nn Vera - Okay, so Severina is a little out there, is it usable, what about if I use a nickname like Vera?
-Xanthe nn Thea - I really am into the name Xanthe lately as well as Xanthia, but I like the look of Xanthe better, so could I call her Thea?
A few have been kicking around in my head for a while, others have just randomly started to appeal to me... so all replies are appreciated.
Thanks Everyone!

I think it can work. Zinovia "Nova" is a personal fave of mine.
Declan "Dex", Mordecai "Cai", Sullivan "Van", Calliope "Calla", and Severina "Vera" seem fine to me. I like both Adele and Delphine, but Delphine "Adele" seems like too much of a stretch. Xanthia "Thea" is fine. Xanthe "Thea" is kind of stretching it, but it works.

A real-life one that you might enjoy is Kelly as a male nn for Michael, instead of Mike or Mick. I've known two.
I like the "less-common-nickname" thing, but I'm not sure that I'm such a fan of a nickname that seems like a name in itself.
I'm all in support of
Declan nn Dex. I would be all over this one is I could get my husband to agree.
Modecai nn Cai.
Sullivan nn Van. Though personally I love Sullivan nn Sully.
Severina nn Vera. In support of the fn/nn combination, but not the fn itself.
Xanthe nn Thea.
On the fence with
Mordecai nn Caius. But I could be won over. Maybe I just don't like Caius.
Calliope nn Calla. Just because I kinda like Calla in it's own right. And I htink Calli is a better nn.
Big no for
Delphine nn Adele. Both are so great and worth their own names. Poor Adele doesn't want to be "just" the nickname.

In response to Van being used for Sullivan, it wouldn't shock me. I have an uncle named Nicholas, and he goes by Las instead of Nick, Nicky or the less-common-but-still-more-common-than-Las, Cole. Also, I agree about the pilot. In my honest opinion, I don't think Sullivan should be used as a first name anyway.
I don't think Adele works for Delphine because I think it's ripe for a comeback as a name in itself.
Thea for Xanthe is fine by me, so is Calla for Calliope, and Cai for Mordecai.
I love Declan, but I don't like Dex. I suppose it could work, but I'd never use it. I would probably just call him Declan, but maybe Dec once in a while.
