Well, recently I watched Disney's "Hocus Pocus" again and remembered how much I like the name Winifred. I like the nn Winnie and Freddie, and I like that it's practically unheard of these days. I looked it up on BtN and it said it was a form of Gwenfrewi.

Does anyone know how to pronounce Gwenfrewi? Wdyt of Winifred?

I greatly dislike Winifred, but love Wendy because of the "Peter Pan" association- I think the sound is very sweet.

Hmmm... I'm not a huge fan of either. Winifred just seems a little too old-fashioned for my taste, and Wendy makes me think of someone on a 'retro' TV show.

Love it! Winnie and even Freddie are darling nns. I've never been a fan of the name Wendy though.

I don't have a clue how to pronounce Gwenfrewi.

Winifred is nice and I love the nn Winnie. Freddie is cute, too.

Wendy makes me think of the fast-food chain. And Peter Pan. But it's cheerful, I kind of like it.

In the Stephen King movie (and possibly novel as well, but I've never read it so can't confirm that) The Shining, Shelley Duvall's character is named Winifred but called Wendy. I've always liked that.

I kind of like Winifred on it's own but then I also don't. It sounds rather abrupt. I would no doubt want to shorten the name to Winnie or Wendy, or even Freddie.

I like Wendy. I always have. It's a cute name. I believe it'll forever be associated with Peter Pan, but that's not a bad thing really.

I absolutely loved the name Winnie when I was younger, and it is still a favourite of mine now. I don't really like Winifred because I think the Fred sound ruins the Winnie part, but I do really like Winnie!

I don't really like Wendy, it sounds so sugary, if you know what I mean.
I like Winifred with the nns Fredie, Winnie or Win.

I do like Winifred. I think I prefer Winnie over Freddie. I've always thought Wendy would be a cute nickname for Bronwen.

It doesn't say in any of my books, they don't list Gwenfrewi or the connection to Winifred. However one has the name Gwynfor ( GWIN-for) with close to the same meaning as Winifred.

I personally don't like Winifred, but Wendy is sort of a favourite.

Ooops, I saw now that Gwynfor is male.
