[Opinions] Atticus
I really love the name Atticus for a boy, but do you think its useable or is it a little too pretentious?
WDYT of the nn Attie?

There's a couple of boys named Atticus at my kids' school. It's one of those overly pretentious hipster names to me. I haven't heard either go by Attie. Considering the popularity of Addy for girls, Atticus nn Attie it might be a bit much, especially considering Atticus isn't terribly masculine to begin with.
I must the only one who thinks this, but I think it's kind of wimpy sounding, and perhaps borderline prtentious. Yes, there is the 'To Kill A Mockingbird' association, but that's not always the first thing that comes to mind. I had heard of the name Atticus before the book or movie, to be honest. So, the whiny/stuck-up association is stuck with me, I guess.
The nickname Attie lightens it up a bit, so it's nice to me.

I love Atticus! I would use it just like that, no nickname. Attie is a horrible nickname imo.
More than a little pretentious.
I think it's entirely usable. I don't find it pretentious, even with the TKAM association. Attie is a cute nickname.
I have liked Atticus ever since I read To Kill A Mockingbird. It's always been in the back of my mind, although I don't think I'll ever use it. My family creates nicknames from the shortest of names - even Casey is often called Case - and Attie (although it is the most logical nn) I find to really, really not do justice to Atticus.
If I could make my family (and everyone who would ever talk to my theoretical son) call him Atticus, then I would.
Would it be too much to make his nickname Finch? :P

I love Atticus. It is one of my favorite names. I don't really like the nickname Attie though. It sounds like a girls name.
I don't quite get the fascination with Atticus many on this board seem to share. It's just not my cup of tea. I do think it's usable though.
Atticus = amazing.
Attie seems feminine.... & I don't think Atticus needs a nickname.
I think the name itself seems pretentious but if you put the name with a face, I think that quality would disappear. I think its ideal bearer would have an 'old-soul', be smart and mature.
Love it, will have to add to my list.

It seems to be quite popular on this board but I'm not really a fan. I think I like the way it looks much more than the way it sounds. I don't see it as pretentious and it's definitely usable in my opinion. Personally I think Attie is pretty bad and Atticus doesn't really need a nickname.
I think it is too pretentious. The sound is also quite ugly. It's one of my least favorite male names.
I love it.
It is a little bit pretentious but that doesn't bother me. I think it is spunky and would age well. Plus 'To Kill A Mockingbird' is one of my favorite books and Atticus Finch is my fave character.
If I used it, I would use the nn Atty. I like Atticus way better but nicknames are unavoidable in my family and Atty is cute enough

I think it's usable and I love it. A friend of mine's father is called Atticus. It's actually a nn but it suits him.
Attie is just Ok.
