[Opinions] Miriam
What do you think of Miriam? Do you think it is too Hebrew or Jewish for someone not of those cultures to use? Do you find Miriam hopelessly dated and grandmotherly? I've been really liking Miriam lately. I really like the nicknames Miri and Mim for it. Could you please come up with some Miriam combos for me? You can do combos with it in the first name or middle name slot or both. :)

I adore Miriam. When my gf and I talk about a future daughter, Miriam Joy is the first combo that comes up. Miri and Mim are gorgeous, and if I do have a Miriam, I intend to use Molly Mim as a cutesy nickname for her :)

I know it's so old-school, but I love Miriam. I find it so pretty and simple. Pretty without being frilly. I like Miri as a nickname.
Since Miriam shows up in so many cultures and languages, I don't think it's too Hebrew/Jewish at all. My favorites from you pnl:
Miriam Adalia
Miriam Gabrielle
Miriam Sariah
Miriam Talitha

I love the name Miriam and have for years. I think anyone can use it, you don't have to be Jewish. I don't think it's too dated to use and would love to see it on a little girl these days and have, since I have a niece with this name, who was born three days after my son! I like it - it doesn't sound elderly or too closely tied to Jewish culture. I mean, it's identifiable from the Bible, but it seems more mainstream, any culture USA, than say, Tzipporah, which would make me automatically think the person was Jewish. If that makes sense?
vote up1
That makes perfect sense. :) Tzipporah does seem much more Biblical and Jewish than Miriam.

This is one Hebrew name I feel anyone could use / could work on anyone regardless if they're not Jewish. I think it's stunning, utterly gorgeous. If its viewed as 'grandmotherly', then it makes me love it even more:) It's like Vivien (similar sounding) without the climbing popularity, very vintage and classy.Miri is very cute, I also like Mimi.

Thank you. :) I'm glad people think Miriam can be used by non-Jewish people too. It's funny, because I've never liked Vivien but I love Miriam, and you're right the sounds are similar.

My best friend age 27 is named Miriam Davina. She goes by Mir as a nn.
My other best friend's niece is Miriam nn Miri age 1. I think it makes a good mn.
Mim sounds like an old woman or Madame Mim from The Sword in the Stone.

Miriam Susanna is just beautiful! Ooh, sometimes I wish I was having more children. Well, actually, I don't really, but I would like to name another child, nurse it once or twice and give it back. Guess I'll stick with pets to satisfy my naming urges. ;-)I also like:Miriam Julia
Miriam Talulla
Miriam Eliana

Miriam Joy is delightful. I know people consider Joy a filler mn. But I don't see it very often and it does bring a lot of energy to combos. Glad you liked the others. :-)

I like Miriam, although it will always remind me of Helga's mother from Hey Arnold. It's not dated at all, and I can picture it on someone who is not Jewish.

Oh, I almost forgot about the Miriam in Hey Arnold. I used to watch that show all the time when I was a kid. :)
