[Opinions] Violet
What are everyone's feelings towards this name? I love it, but there is something about it that makes me feel it isn't a strong name. For example, I can't imagine telling off a child with that name and saying it in an authoritive tone. It seems like the kind of name this has nothing to hold it to the ground. It seems whispy, like it will float away. Does anyone else get that feeling about Violet? Should I let it bother me

I like Violet. It is sweet, old fashioned, a little romantic. I can't really picture myself using it though.
I agree it is a little wispy. Maybe it comes off weak due to the phrase "shrinking violet".

I find Violet to be one of the strongest, if not strongest, flower names. It probably has something to do with it starting with a V. I tend to find V names strong. The long I sound helps as well. And then it ends with a T which to me is soft enough to be girly and still maintain strength. To me it is just the right amounts of whim and groundedness.
I prefer Violet as a middle name. To me it does seem a bit insubstantial as a first name. It's very delicate.
My grandmother knew the previous generation of Violets, and said that in her experience they all became stout women with loud voices, flat feet and creaking corsets.
Maybe it's because of the term 'shrinking violet', meaning someone shy and timid? Or maybe just because most flower-names sound a bit delicate and flowery. The only Violet I've ever known was a fearsomely tough old lady, though, so I wouldn't worry about it if you like it.
I like Violet. It's lovely and sweet.
I would let it bother you. Use it if you love it. :)

I don't agree about it being whispy and not at all strong. I think Violet is a feminine name, that actually holds some authority. I can see it on a sweet, innocent little girl, but I can also see it on a woman that you wouldn't want to mess with!
