[Opinions] Ryan
I'm curious about the board's opinion of Ryan. I hate it but I want to know what y'all think.

I think it gets too much slack because of its popularity.
I think it would be a lovely name if I didn't know 30 people with it.
If I knew maybe one or two, I'd think Ryan was a perfectly nice name- like its family Riley and Ryland.
(The boy in the last pic of my sig is named Ryan and I'm kind of in love with him. But his first name (that he doesn't go by) is George which is even cooler.)
ETA: People who use it on girls make me want to hurt tiny, fuzzy animals though.

I almost dittoed coldplayer9's response, but then I realized I feel somewhat differently. Rather than thinking "Nothing really wrong with it", which denotes neutrality, I do actively like it. It's a handsome name. But I definitely ditto "it's overused now."
Nothing really wrong with it, but it's overused now.
I don't hate it but I don't like it either. Really there's nothing interesting or exciting about it, so I don't see the appeal.
I used to like it when it was younger but now I hate it. It sounds like a jerk's name (no offense to anyone).
It's ok, just very popular. I have a cousin named Ryan.
It's a dated surname-name, like Travis or Craig or Bradley. They are not my bag and neither is Ryan. It's not that bad though - it could be Rheiyghanne.
Dislike
Definitely not a fan of it. It's obnoxious and immature to me.

Popular as it is, I really don't see the appeal. It reminds me of Rhino. I much prefer Brian.
I don't hate it, but I don't like it much either, probably as it's been rather overdone!
I'm with you on this one.
Ryan is dated, boring and just plain ugly.

I don't necessarily hate it but I don't see the appeal. It's boring, over-used, and over-rated. I would say that for me to use it as a name the other option would have to be really bad, like Ichabod or Keith.

Well, Ryan is a family surname for me. So I just can't hate it, I can't. I would never use it because I think it's so "been there, done that".
heh. Logan is a family surname for me, and I can't even make one combo with it I don't find a total abomination.
EXACTLY!!! I ended up using Collins from my side and Timmons from hubby's side as honoring names. Next up is Hemingway or McBride (in the form of Bridie maybe?).... Never going to get around to Ryan though....
I'm pretty middle-of-the-road on Ryan. I don't love it, but I don't hate it. It's just kind of unremarkable to me.
I dislike it, but don't tell anyone because it is my boyfriend's middle name.
I was just thinking about posting about this name! I used to really like the combo Ryan Luke when I was a young teenager. In recent years I haven't liked it because it's been so popular, used for girls as well as boys, and it always conjures up the image of the popular teenage sports star. But in the last couple weeks I've met/seen various people who have helped alter that image a bit. I'd say Ryan is now one of my guilty pleasures because I don't usually choose trendy names. But I do love Irish names!
Yeah, I hate it too. Ryan is one of those names I just don't "get".
Hate it.
I don't hate it but I find it kinda tacky and trendy.
I don't hate it. I kind of like the sound of it, it's not ugly. It is out of style, though, and was overused, and isn't classic, so it does seem humble. I sort of notice that Ryan is a grownup now - starting to age, even, and I'm not sure how well his name has aged. It's like, the Aiden of the 80s, and maybe like Kevin (60s) or Brian (70s).
I like it for a middle name only.
all the Ryan's I know (except 1) are reeeealllyy hot =]
I don't hate it, but it's not anything special

It's alright but I'm kind of bias because I know a Ryan and he's a snob:)
Not horrible but boring and overused for boys. I do know a couple of girls with this name (One is spelled Ryan and the other Ryann). I do not care for it on a girl.
It's not the worst name in the world, but it isn't one of my favorites. It's so-so.
It's my middle name. I kinda like it, but on a boy only. I hate seeing it on girls.
Ditto. It's one of my least favorite names. I especially dislike it on girls.
