I really like it, but I wouldn't use it because it is my little cousin's middle name and also the middle name of my other cousin's son.

I like Julius. But I always think of Orange Julius, and that turns me off from using it as a name on a child.

I don't mind it at all and I personally don't find it pretentious. I do however prefer Julian to Julius.

I don't think it's too pretentious. I would consider it in real life, but I do like Julian better. Julius is maybe more masculine than Julian, but Julian is just so friendly and intelligent sounding to me.

It just feels really dated. Not pretentious though.
I love love Julian! And it is close to that so i can totally see Julius being used. And Jules is a cool nickname if he wants one.

It's okay but Julian would be my choice. On scale of pretentiousness I would put Julius at the high end while Julian would be at the low end and Jules would be right in the middle.

Pretentious? No way. I don't get that vibe at all. Julius is a great name. Is there a short version that doesn't sound girly?

I don't see the pretentiousness in this name at all. I love it, personally. It just sounds so handsome to me.
