When Philippe heard the rumours of a revolt brewing, he was both concerned and proud. The war with France had ended only three years ago, and Orlais was still recovering so a revolt was poor timing if nothing else, Orlais was too vulnerable. At the same time however, Philippe had to agree with his supporters that Leopold was too king, too gentle, too weak, to be an effective ruler. He was fine during times of peace that was true, the people loved him and he was fair and just... But during arduous times, he was not strong enough to make the hard decisions with the same effectiveness that Philippe himself could. Despite this though, Philippe was torn because he did love his brother and didn't want to hurt him if it was avoidable. Philippe knew he should act to settle the people, but it was a stern letter from Bella that finally made him realise that he'd allowed it go on too long. He spread word through the people using contacts with a few of his more prominent supporters that it was not the time and to keep the peace, thus stemming the revolt for now.
During of this turmoil however, there was one very good thing that happened to Philippe when he and Valentina welcomed their first child, a son they named Thibault, whom was named for his father, grandfather & Philippe's dear departed sister Juliette. Philippe is naturally thrilled to have a son and heir, and is head over heels in love with his tiny son. Over the course of their first year of marriage, he and Valentina had fallen deeply in love, and baby Thibault was the culmination of that love.
Unfortunately, not everyone was as happy in their marriages as he and Valentina were. Valentina & her cousin Diana were very close, and as a result he and Diana had become friends also. Philippe knew that Joseph's behaviour since his wedding had been dispicable, but he had been unable to get through to his stubborn younger brother. After Diana welcomed their son, Joseph II, Philippe hoped that Joseph might settle down, but it seemed that things actually got worse. After one particularly bad night, Diana came to Philippe begging him to try to speak to his brother as she was becoming afraid for herself, and now also for her son. Philippe agreed, and set about to find Joseph.
Predictably, he found Joseph in the local tavern and dragged him back to the palace where he tossed the drunken prince into a cold bath to sober him up. Once Joseph had dried off Philippe sent one of the servants to the kitchen for coffee and once he deemed Joseph sober set about trying to get through to him about why his behaviour was so unacceptable. Only time will tell if he managed to get through to him, but Philippe has taken it upon himself to look out for Diana and baby Joseph from now on.
