I think the 'n' for Anne/Nan and Elizabeth/Nell traditionally comes from a shortening of the endearment "mine Anne" and "mine Elizabeth - mine Elle" ....same would go for Eleanor/Nell
Also, Poppy shortens Penelope is the same sort of manner that Romy shortens Rosemary
