[Opinions] Santana
There is a girl at the high school named Santana. Apparently, her parents were big Carlos Santana fans, and wanted to honor him.
So, what do you think?

Honestly, my first association before I saw the text of your post was the character on Glee. (You know you watch too much Glee when...) Then I thought Carlos Santana.
That being said, I don't really care for it as a given name. For some reason the "San" at the beginning sounds completely unfeminine to me, which I know is ridiculous because there are other female names with that component (Sandra, for example.)

reminds me of Glee :]

I'm not fond of it. I just think Carlos..lol. It's not the worst name I've seen though. I love the name Santina as an alternative. I feel it's got a much nicer sound than Santana.

I like it, but I's probably assume a Santana was named after the band!
Don't judge me... I kinda like it. Although Santana himself totally makes me think of sultanas.
That is just not a magic name! I disapprove.
It's alright, definitely not my style but it isn't overly trendy. I used to go to elementary school with a Santanna. I think it's one of those names that only has its sound to recommend itself, and little history or image.
Well, it does mean Santa Ana, even though its image is pretty much tied to the singer.
Love your quote! :)
I also know a young lady named Santana. I always kind of liked it!
I knew a Santana once...
...but she was named to honor her grandfather Santos. I always kinda liked her name & I thought her nickname ( Santi ) was really nice.

I think it's terrible. It doesn't sound nice, and Carlos Santana is the butt of many jokes in some music circles.
Naming your child after a celebrity - any celebrity, let alone a living one - is just asking for trouble.

Oh, I considered incorporating Jovi into a kid's name...
....during high school...for, like, a nanosecond.
Actually, that sounds more sarcastic than I meant it. I agree that Carla would have been a much nicer option, or using Santana as a middle name.
The musician aside, Santana has always been the name of a street to me.

Carla would NOT have honored Santana.
Publicly or at all?
That's kind of what I was thinking.
Carla is a lovely name, and certainly more usable, but the parents wanted people to know they honored Carlos Santana. If they named their daughter Carla, people wouldn't think twice.

Okay, I get that.
I wasn't thinking of it from a public recognition viewpoint, just a personal one of knowing themselves why they chose the name.
If I name a son after my father or a literary character or a president, it won't matter a bit to me whether the general public understands the meaning behind the selection, the whole point of it is personal, for me...so that's where my head was.
You make a valid point. :)

There was a Packer named Santana. I'm not a fan. Couldn't they have used Carla instead?
