For me, it creates the impression of a loud, bossy woman who wears tacky clothing and chews gum constantly, and has brightly colored horned rim glasses and dangling earrings, and brightly colored high heel shoes and really tight pants.

This is in spite of the fact that the only Laverne I ever knew was nothing at all like that. She was my teenage best friend's mother. A well-spoken, well-dressed woman who could sing and play the piano and who was the musical director of all of our community theater group's musicals. Didn't change my impression of the name. Go figure. I still find it a tacky name.
