Petal is silly and Petula is ugly.

It looks and sounds like the word petulant."petulant - cranky: easily irritated or annoyed"That makes it a GIANT NO for me...I like Petunia though...

I think Petal is one of the cutest names-that-nobody-uses ever! :)
I don't like Petula very much because it reminds me of 'petulant'..

I honestly like it, but also honestly, all I can think of when I see it is "petulant". And I could see a Petula being very petulant. I like Petula more than Petal though - somehow it seems stronger, more substantial.

Reminds me of 'petulant', I'm afraid. I prefer Petal or even Petunia.

Other than Petula Clark, it also makes me think of Petaluma, CA. Not sure why though.

According to this site, Petula Clark's father invented her name. Interesting. I thought it was an established name before she entered the world.

I was just thinking about Petula!I was searching another name that ended up not being in the database. It was so wonderfully old-fashioned and sweet, like a cuter, fresher Petunia. I added it to my PNL.I much prefer Petula to Petal. Petal has the cutesy schumtesy Jamie Oliver essence to it. Petula is quirkier and more interesting.

I've been thinking about this name a lot lately. My sister and I were teasing my brother and decided to call him a girl name...and for some reason the first thing that popped out was Petula! It's never really been a love, but it does have everything I like. It's quirky, off beat, has long vowell sounds, is naturey, has musical ties (Petula Clark) and starts with a P. Definitely one that is growing on me. As for Petal, it is very sweet and soft. A bit wordy for me, but I do like it.

I love Petal and dislike Petula (too close to petulant for my taste).
