[Opinions] Some Gaelic Girl Names
So I'm going to Ireland in a few months to visit a friend, and, because of that, I've been interested in Gaelic names recently. I used to love the name Teagan, but it's becoming so popular now that it's kind of a turnoff. But some that I do like are Keela, Marsaili, and Sorcha. Keela is sort of on the whole Kaylie/Kelly/Kayla bandwagon but I just love the sound of it. Marsaili is a form of Marcell and Sorcha means "Bright". Just wondering what people think of these names! Thanks!

Teagan is a name that annoys me to the very end even before it was popular.

I love Sorcha, it's on my favourite list. But I want to pronounce it SORE-chuh instead of SORE-khuh, because "sork" is the Swedish word for arvicolinae and the Gutamal (old dialect of Gotland) word for boy.

I have heard a few people say it Sore-sha.The actual pronunciation is nearer to Sor-i-kah or Sur-i-kah though some people say Sore-ka.

I sort of like the sound of Keela, but I'm definitely turned off it by the Kaylie/Kelly/Kayla thing. Marsaili is cool, but sort of nms. I love Sorcha though :) It means 'bright', but has a mysterious sound.

I love Gaelic names in general. They are so beautiful. I really like Marsaili. I'm not a big fan of Sorcha though. I prefer Saoirse.

I like the name Sorcha :)
Some other Irish names I stumbled across a while ago were Órflaith (Orla), Ailbhe (AL-va) and Saoirse, and I have a cousin called Siobhan

Oh, I love Gaelic names! Saoirse is one of my leading contenders for a girl name. I'm not sure how well it would go over in the USA, but I keep reminding myself that I used to work with a woman named Siobhan, and she seemed to have no trouble with her name.Keela is nice -- I hadn't heard that one before. I also like Aine, Aoife, Niamh, Laoise, Fionnuala, and Ciara. Marsaili I'm not too keen on. I do like Sorcha, but I've left it off my list because I'm afraid people would mishear "sorka" as "orca," especially since ORCA is the name of a transit pass where I live (complete with an illustration of a whale on the card!). Teagan was a name I had on my list of boy names for a while, but I decided it sounded too light for a boy. For a girl, it might be a good choice.

I am sure about Teagan - it's sounds trendy and you'd never hear it here. I kind of like it for a dog though. I am not sure about Keela - there is a band called Kila and I like that spelling.I love Marsaili - I like Marsíle too; it's a name in my husband's family. I love Sorcha as well - it's my SIL's name. OT - Where are you going in Ireland?

I'm not really into Gaelic names. They never appealed to me for some reason. I like a few anglicized ones, especially Maeve, Enya, and Eileen. I also love Fiona, which I might add to my PNL someday.
