[Opinions] Violet
This name has grown on me a lot lately What are your opinions on it? Is it too popular? I know it is in the US, but it hasn't made it on the top 100 in New Zealand yet, although I can see it happening. Any combo ideas? For some reason I'm finding it hard to make combos with it.

This is one of the names that I never liked and I don't understand it's appeal. Sorry :S
I love it, it's my middle name, after my grandmother who adopted the name when she moved to England. (She was originally from Fiji and her Fijian name was a bit too complicated for life in the UK!)
I love the flower and want to love the name, but there's something that doesn't work for me though I can't put my finger on it. I've seen some lovely combos like Persephone Violet but still not in my fave list.
I like the flower and the color, but I don't understand the attraction to Violet as a name. Whenever I hear it I always think of the obnoxious character Violet in Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I have two different friends with daughters named Violet--one as fn and one as mn. It probably doesn't help that their combos are less than pleasing to my ear: Violet Elena and Isabelle Violet.
I like it because it sounds classy. However, I do think it's a little close to "violent". Therefore, I prefer Viola.
Viola
I also like Viola (though I haven't any "violent" issues with Violet). I pronounce Viola almost as two syllables, with a very long "i" sound and just a hint at the "o". I know a lot of people say vi-OH-luh.

I think I like that way was well. I usually say vi-OH-luh, and I've also heard vye-OH-luh, but I think I like VYE-o-la too. Although it doesn't solve the "violent" problem, except getting rid of the t.
I love Violet. I don't think it's too popular yet, but it might be heading in that direction. Especially with an example like Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck's daughter Violet, who is sooo adorable.
I really like this name and would consider using it in the future. It's not super popular here in Australia, but I can see it increasing in popularity here too. Seems like a name a lot of parents would like these days, with the trend for "retro" names ripe at the moment. As for combos, I like:

Ohh I love Violet Rhiannon
Eloise is sometimes underappreciated, I think. The stresses on the first syllable and last syllable of this combo work quite nicely to my ear. :)
I like it. I know it's getting popular/could very easily become popular, but it's still good.

It's a perfectly lovely name, but I'm genuinely surprised at how popular it's become in the USA. To my ears, it sounds like a very grandmotherly kind of name. I don't know why, but whenever I hear Violet I think of a sweet old gray-haired lady in her rocking chair.
But then I think the same thing about Isabella, so it's probably best to pay no attention to me. :)

I love Violet! It might be too popular in the US, though, most because of celebrity babies.
I like it. I don't think it's all that popular in the US; I've never met a Violet in my life. It might be a different story in other areas, though.
