Well, it's only speculated that it comes from the Greek words meaning "to destroy" and "murder." I assume that name was given to the goddess because of her role as queen of the underworld and not to indicate that she was a murderer. :)

I still love this name. I was so obsessed with it during senior year of high school (11 or 12 years ago). I can't believe all these people are using it now. Heh.
