[Opinions] Emmanuelle
How do you like the name Emmanuelle? Also, Emmanuel for a boy? Do you think it's overly religious in a family / community that isn't? thanks

Emmanuelle = soft porn movie from the '60s or '70s.I like Emmanuel, but I would think it a bit out of place if the family is not religious.

I love Emanuel! It's one of my favorite names.
When I hear someone named Emanuel I don't think "oh, they're probably Christian" or anything but if it would bug you, then obviously don't use it. I think it's more of a personal thing.

I like the sound of Emmanuelle for a girl. I don't care for Emmanuel for a boy. Yes, I do definitely think it's too overtly religious for use in a family that isn't. Often I will cite Faith and Christian as two names that I, as an atheist, would never use, though I like the names based upon just their sound. Now I've been reminded of Emmanuelle as another example.

It is a very pretty name, but it's another name for God so I don't think you should use it inless you want to.

Emmanuelle is very pretty. I've not seen it used outside France, but it's not hard to pronounce, so I don't see why not. I like Emmanuel too - it does have a very religious meaning, but then so do many other names, like, say, Christopher, and I doubt every Christopher in the world is a practicing Christian.

I love both of them! Except for a boy I think I prefer the spelling Emanuel. I think they seem nicely religious, and I do think it would be a bit odd for someone to use either of them if they weren't religious.

I love it, for both genders. Emmanuelle is my favourite name for a girl at the moment and if I was to give birth right now, I wouldn't think twice about using it! It's so feminine, pretty and classy, whilst still being fairly unique. There are also lots of really cute nicknames like Em, Emmy, Elle, Ella, Emma etc if she didn't want to go by Emmanuelle when she's younger. Emmanuel is so handsome, but I would probably only use it as a middle name because I cant really think of any boyish nicknames and he may need one with a long first name, especially when younger. It's a lovely name though! I would be very happy if I saw it being used!
