[Facts] pronunciation of Thalia
Replies
And actually the pronunciation that I am most familiar with is "THAIL-yuh", with the first syllable rhyming with "tail" but definitely starting with the "th" sound found in "thin". This was how the name was pronounced on the old American television series "The Adventures of Dobie Gillis", which featured a character called Thalia Menninger.
THAH - lee- ah.
I don't know about the common pronuciation but Encarta and the Oxford English Dictionary both give tha-LYE-ah as the pronunciation.

Unfortunately the OED site I used is subscription only (I used my university's access)

I've always pronounced it tah-lee-yuh.
Isn't it like tail-ya? I don't think you're supposed to pronounce the TH sound at the begining. Maybe it's tall-ya?
