[Opinions] Cypress and Scottie
Seems like a title for male names, no? But it isn't.I was looking at some of my old posts and I found Edmund Cypress, which I really like, so I made some girl combos with Cypress as well. Any you like?Joan Cypress
Elizabeth Cypress "Bess", most likely
Emma Cypress
Vera Cypress
Rosamund Cypress "Rose"
Wilhelmina Cypress "Mina or Billie"
Jamesina Cypress "Jamie or Zina"
Abigail Cypress "Gail"
Nora Cypress
Victoria Cypress
Theodora Cypress "Theo"
Dione Cypress (die-O-nee)
Griselda Cypress "Zelda" (why not, right?)And, what do you think of Scottie for a girl? A couple of months ago I was reading a biography of Zelda Fitzgerald, who was F. Scott Fitzgerald's wife, and their daughter was named Frances Scott Fitzgerald "Scottie". I can't help finding it really cute. Do you think that Scottie for a girl is usable as a first name, usable only as a nickname or a middle name, only usable if Scott has some kind of meaning to you, or not usable at all? Thanks!

I know at least 4 girls named Scottie (not including Scottie Fitzgerald :P), and Scottie is the given name for all of them. I find the name quite darling. A little tomboyish, but sweet. And very usable, IMO. At least it works well for all the Scotties I know.Cypress is interesting, and works well in the MN slot. I love Victoria Cypress.

No way! I've actually never heard of a girl Scottie besides Frances Scott Fitzgerald, but this just made my day! Are any of them adults? What I mean is, will it carry into adulthood? That question is always kind of funny, because I know of adults named Rosie, Lacey, Mary-Lou, etc, and they all get along just fine. But I'm still curious. :)For some reason now I'm thinking of Lacey Scott "Scottie". Hm.Thanks!

All of the Scotties I know are in their 20's or early 30's, and they're all still known as Scottie! One's a doctor, one I knew in college and I'm not sure what she's doing now (acting?), and 2 are in college, so I think they're getting along fine with Scottie as a name. :)

What about Scarlett "Scottie"?I've been considering Scarlett 'cause it's similar to Scott [as in Scott Gill]. As much as I love the idea of names like Tate and Robin on girls, I could never do it. It just feels... kind o' dodgy. I can't say I like Cypress, either. It just doesn't sound like a name. If I had to choose, though, I'd go with Victoria Cypress.

You rock.Scarlett "Scottie" is incredible. It's my new favorite name/nickname pair (even though I won't use it 'cause it's yours), even above Olivette "Lettie"!I have to say, Tate and Robin on girls doesn't bother me at all. They're both pretty well established, and you could do far worse. Mind you, this is coming from someone who in an ideal world would be able to name a girl Isidore (am I the only one who thinks Isidore sounds feminine?) and a boy Anna. I guess gender only means something to me because it means something to everyone else.I don't think Cypress sounds like a name either, but a lot of names I like don't sound like names, if that makes sense. Like Freedom or Amethyst or Clover. The words themselves just have qualities that I think make the names that they're with more special.

Isidore is SO for girls!!oh yeah.. you are not alone in that one!

Ha ha. Don't let me stop you from using it! It was just something I was playing around with. I have a friend that would murder me if I named girls Tate and Robin [she lives in the US, but she probably fly here to do it]. Yes, I think Isidore sounds feminine too! I remember watching that Disney film, Jump In, and thinking "Isidore? What?! Surely that's a girls' name!" I suppose Cypress isn't that bad, really, it'd just take me some getting used to.

Thank you! Scarlett "Scottie" is going on my list!Bah! Well, at least she cares. I suppose you could always use Tatiana and Robina or something. It's like a revolution! I'm feeling bolder by the minute, gender restrictions be damned!Cypress took some getting used to for me also, and it's not my favorite. Still not sure if I actually like it on a girl. But why not experiment?

Awesome :) I'm not sure about Robina, reminds me of the Ribena drink, but I quite like Tatiana "Tate"... Just don't tell my friend that I've been encouraging you!

Isidore!I LOVELOVE Isidore on a girl. The way I love Eugene on a girl. I think Isidore is just the right amount of obsolete boyishness and delicacy that makes it so perfect. I would for real use Isidore over Isidora.I mean I still like it for a boy too, but for a girl it just shines, shines, shines.

REALLY?!?! YES! I am not a freak! *happy*P.S. Eugene on a girl is so awesome! Would she be the coolest girl ever or what? I'm seeing a skate-boarding, rainbow colored nails wielding girl who dreams of owning a book and occult store in San Francisco.

Scottie for a girl is cute, but it does remind me of toilet tissue. I love the Fitzgerald tie but I would most likley use it as they would - putting Scott in the middle and using Scottie as a family pet name.I really like Jamesina Cypress and Wilhelmina cypress (though I might like Wilhelmine Cypress a touch more?). Cypress is interestingly frilly in a non-frilly way.

Curse that toilet tissue! Why do I always forget about it? Oh well, I still like Scottie.Wilhelmine Cypress is great! Something about the e. Makes it look more put together. Thank you! That's a great way to describe Cypress, and I agree. I'm not sure if it's the imagery offsetting the spelling and sound, or the Cy- offsetting the -ess, but it does have frilly and grounded elements to it.
