5 years have passed since the sign-up round, and the whole family has come together to mourn the passing of their father/grandfather, Rick Miller. It's the first time the whole family has been together in years!

Leah, when she went to her grandfather's funeral, was overcome with grief. Her boyfriend, Leo Mauer, even though he desired deeply and with all his heart to be present with her, had to skip it to go to some meeting at his college. Leah sat with her parents, cradling her mother and being cradled by her mother. Her father stood beside them, cradling them both.
When the funeral was over, Leah went up to her father and said, "Daddy, I love you!" She threw her arms around her father, unashamed of doing so. The people who were near let them be, realizing that they were heartbroken family of the deceased. Leah's grandmother came up to her son and granddaughter. Leah smiled weakly, and said, "You can always visit me, Mamsy, whenever you want. I don't care when it is. I know I don't miss Grandy as much as you do, Mamsy, but you have to know that I miss him, too."
The day after the funeral, Leo visited. Leah was glad to see him and told him everything. By the end of her tale, Leo, who is a very sensitive young man, was wiping tears out of his eyes. He embraced Leah, and the two of them stayed that way for a couple of minutes before Leah pulled away. "Thanks, Leo," she muttered. "You're always here for me, just like the perfect guy should."

Ezra and Alice are high school sweethearts. They met when Ezra was a senior and Alice a junior. They fell in love and decided to go to the same college in order to remain together. They married just recently, only 6 months ago.
When Ezra got the call from his father George saying that his grandfather Rick had passed away, Ezra was saddened. Though he had not been as close to his grandfather as some of his cousins, he was still very upset that Rick had died.
Ezra and Allie packed their things and headed out to meet up with the whole family to mourn Rick's passing. Ezra was delighted to see his cousins Noah and Oliver again; the three boys had always been close. Ezra was also happy to see his sisters Emmie and Viva; he hadn't seen them since the wedding. Allie was excited to meet Ezra's aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral was a sad affair, but Ezra was comforted in the knowledge that his grandfather was now free from suffering and pain.

Since Ayla was just sitting at home, visiting her parents, Grandpa Rick passed away. Ayla was the first daughter of Justin & Vanessa's to find out.
Ayla's very, very distraught about losing her grandfather's death. Grandpa Rick & Ayla were extremely close, they both had the same interests, & loved just being around each other. Ayla's very excited to see all of her Grandma Becky, cousins, aunts, & uncles! She loves them, but knows it'll be a very difficult time to be together.
Ayla brought her boyfriend, Levi, whom they've been dating for 9 months now & knows how close Grandpa Rick & her are. Levi is being extremely supportive to Ayla during this very hard time.

Viva quickly wiped out pictures from her scrap book of the week in the summer that she would spend with her grandparents. While her grandfather was strict he was also very loving and he taught her much about life.
Viva has been dating Rafe since freshman year of college. They are sharing an apartment together close by the campus has Viva is in her junior year and Rafe is beginning his graduate degree. Rafe and Viva are very alike yet very different creating a nice complement in their relationship. She was very glad that Rafe agreed to travel home with Viva and meet her family. Viva is nervous of what her family will think of Rafe, yet confident that they will all love him.
Viva is very excited to see Ezra and Emmie. It has been a while since she was able to come home to visit her brother and sister. Cordelia was very sad to hear about her grandfather passing away even though they had not been very close. Cordelia was quite excited to see all of her cousins and their significant others at the funeral but she was also a little anxious as she is very shy.
Cordelia brought her boyfriend Jeremy with her. They have been together almost three years and they have just rented their first apartment together. They are not planning to get married at least in the near future if ever as they don't see marriage necessary for two people who want to live together.

The one good thing about the funeral, for her, was that all her family was there, and even though she is one of the younger cousins, she gets along well with everyone.
Ben, Maya's boyfriend, came along. They have been together since they were 15 (Ben) and 14 (Maya), around the time they first met. Ben's father left the family almost three years ago and ever since then he and Maya have been especially close since she has helped him and his mom care for his two younger siblings (then they were 15 & 11, now they are 18 and 14).

Noah and Dani were highschool sweethearts who married after College. They've just recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary and couldn't be happier!
When the phone rang early one morning, Noah couldn't help the sick feelilng in his gut as he answered it. It was his Mom, Amy, ringing to tell him that his grandfather had passed away. Noah was floored at the news, Rick had always seemed so larger than life to him, so for him to be gone so suddenly was a real shock. He's still struggling to come to terms with it.
Noah and Dani packed and made the 2 hour drive back to his home town immediately where he found his parents and a few aunts & uncles waiting for him. His grandmother Becky was also there, and Noah just wanted to comfort her so he and Dani sat with her and talked quietly as more and more family began to arrive.
A part of Noah was excited to see everyone, it wasn't very often that they all got together like this... He was especially excited to see his cousins Ezra & Oliver. Growing up they'd become very close, they didn't have much choice being the only boys amongst all the girls! He was also looking forward to spending some time with his little sister, Hermione.
The funeral broke Noah's heart, it was so hard to bury a man who had been his hero...
