Truthfully, it seems to me a ridiculous and inappropriate name for a human. If you were considering it as a first name, I'd argue very strongly against it. But for a middle name, there's more leeway, since middle names are not generally known by others, and when they are, it's only because the name-bearer is willing to divulge it. I'm willing to bet that if you use Spike, your son will be embarrassed by his middle name and more determined than most to keep it a secret, but I don't think it would be traumatic or damaging to him. If your husband is set upon it, I would agree, especially as you chose the first names.
I love Cash, by the way, as a nickname for Cassius, but my SO says it's a drug-dealer name. And I'm not at all materialistic--I just like the way it sounds.
