Lovise, at age eighteen, had moved from her native land of Denmark to the land of France. When she had arrived at Paris, she hadn't realize what she had gotten herself into, running from her parents, her responsibilities, her possible lovers, everything. The young Danish girl was lost, scared, and alone. That is, until plain-looking, kindhearted Ludovic Descoteaux, twenty-one at the time, passed by her on his way home. He stopped to speak with her, and, since Lovise had studied French before coming, they started talking. Lovise broke into tears and poured her heart out to the young Frenchman. Ludovic, at the time, was a single man with not a single girl he was interested in... until he met Lovise. Over the years, Ludovic and Lovise began seeing each other and eventually married. Now, in the midst of the French Revolution, Ludovic and Lovise have decided to move to Austria, a place where they believe they may be safe from the Revolution. Also, it is a place where they might be able to practice their Catholic faith without fearing the law... though, of course, like any good Catholic, they would not be afraid to give up their lives to keep their faith.
