[Opinions] Dexter
Would you consider Dexter to be flaky and trendy, or just quirky and interesting? Or all of the above? I like Dexter a lot today, but often can't decide if I like Baxter more. I like the combo Dexter Ward (Ward is a family surname). It's so studious and also has bonus HP Lovecraft connections (I found out when I Googled it. Also apparently a loser American Idol contestant, and a financial planning service! what fun!)

Well I thought it was nerdy and kid of flaky at first. But then this summer I met a really cool guy named Dexter and it changed my thoughts on the name! I like it now, alot better than Baxter.

If there weren't the show "Dexter" I'd find it more quirky and interesting. It's still quirky, but it's one of those "influenced by current pop culture" names now, I think, like Jude and Delilah.
It's nice, but it's not really 'for me'. I prefer it a million times over to Baxter, though!

I've been thinking about Dexter a lot recently! The name sounds quirky and studious to me, so I like it.

It reminds me of "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward"! :)
I don't like the name overall though... it sounds a little too much like dexterous, and I think I actually prefer Baxter.

yep! That's the first thing that comes up when you google Dexter Ward! I've never actually read any Lovecraft, but I'm gonna I swear. I like how Baxter is a little more unexpected. There is a show called Dexter after all, which I kind of don't like. Makes it seem unoriginal.

I'll take Dexter over Baxter any day. Baxter can be quickly associated phonetically with "bastard" for me, so ... Dexter is quirky cool! I don't really see Dexter as trendy or at least not around here (where I live) but then again Dexter is kinda hipster-ish. I like Dexter either way. I trip over Dexter Ward. When I say it fast, I feel like I'm insulting someone :/ I like Ward, though.

You're a DexterWard!Best insult ever!Oddly I've never played much with Ward beofre. It just seemed a natural Dexter pairing. Maybe I should put something between then? Hmmm.

Dexter is awesome! I get a very "adorkable"/lovable geek feel out of it. I don't necessarily see it as trendy, but I could see it getting somewhat popular in certain circles.

aw, adorkable!So true.

I think Dexter is like the trendy computer geek of names. You know how there are "cool geeks" now? Dexter is that guy's name.Although, I can also picture Dexter on a genuine, funny, sweet guy. Dexter Ward is an outstanding combo! How lucky to have Ward be a family name for you. I love it!

Dexter is definitely geek chic. Ward is my mom's maiden name, so it's not even like I'm digging up lost history to use it! Huzzah.

I think it's cute, and quite hipster.Baxter reminds me of bastard though. It is also the feminine form of the word baker (a la Webster = feminine weaver, etc).

oh!I never thought of how similar it is to "bastard". I bet a third-grader would pick up on that in an instant though. Good spotting. Ohh I like Webster too....would it be very damaging for a young man to have a name that meant "female weaver"??

I don't think so, but it would be called a 'nerd name' because of Websters dictionary.

that's okI like nerd names pretty well :)

I don't dislike it - and I like it a lot better than Baxter.
I used to live near someone who had two sons - Julian and Dexter.

aw those are cute together. I'd pick Dexter and Julius myself, but Julian is adorable.

I'm torn about it. Sometimes it seems quirky and masculine, along the lines of Quentin. And I like the possible nickname Dex. But at other times, it seems nerdy and pretentious. I have enough negative feelings about it that I could never use it.
