[Opinions] Niamh / Neva?
After asking about it on the Facts Board, I'm assuming there is no Celtic name pronounced NEEV-ah.
I know Niamh is pronounced NEEV.
If I wanted a name pronounced NEEV-ah, but with a more Celtic spelling, what would you suggest. (This is for a character only.)
Could I get away with Naoimhe (like Caoimhe)?
Or simply Niamhe / Niamha?
Ideas?

Naoimhe looks quite logical, and if you don't plan on having anyone but you read it, then it should be fine :)
Naoimhe could work.. I think Niamha looks a little odd. Maybe Niamhe? Naoimhe looks most like an actual name IMO.
I think I agree.
Thank you!
Thank you!
Why don't you just spell it Neva? I really don't see the point of a made-up Celtic spelling honestily, I'm not to keep on Celtic spellings anyway except for names that are well-known enough not to need.
See my reply to BellamynSora.
Also, I'm not spelling it Neva because entirely too many people pronounce that as NEHV-ah and then say it sounds like "never" said with a classic deep south accent. (Not what I'm going for at all.)

Ditto
Neva or Neeva would be much easier on your readers. I hate reading a book when I'm never sure how to pronounce a character's, epecially a mc's, name. It distracts from the story and keeps me from really enjoying the story.

It's not a name that she goes by. She goes by her middle name. All of the siblings have Celtic spellings so I want hers to fit.
She's actually my character Siân (I use her name as my username because I like the circumflex. Siân isn't my name.) In the story, she has many names throughout her life. A running theme is the importance of identity.
Also, it's a story that only I ever plan to read. I hate telling some people about it, much less lettings others read it. It's a "pet" story, if you will.
So, there will be no readers to confuse. I was just asking opinions to see what looked best or was the most believable.

If it's just for a character, I'd stick an 'A' on the end of Niamha; it's a lot more memorable than Naoimhe.
Thanks...
