Though I'm not fond of Giovanni, I think it's perfectly acceptable to give a non-Italian an Italian name.
Think of all the Isabellas being named: they can't all be Italian.
Plus, I'd hate to stick to names from my own heritage; that limits me to English, Welsh and French names.
