I started to love the name Melissa after I read a book with a character by that name and her nickname was Missie. She has a niece named Melissa-Joy. I started to dislike the name when I found out how popular it had been and how much my parents hated the name! :)
I still have a soft spot for it, with the nn Missie, but I don't think I'd ever use it for my daughter or even for a pet.
