[Facts] If Xanthe, then ...
... what about Xantippe, or was she Xanthippe? Socrates's wife, if memory serves, and a ferocious one at that, though he must have been hard to live with. Is it a version of the same name? And pronounced how? We used to get away with Zan-tip-ee, stress on the middle syllable, but no doubt there's much more to it than that.

Oh yes, Xanthippe was Socrates's ill-tempered "blonde horse" of a woman.
For some reason that escapes me, Greek words starting with an X are pronounced as if they started with a Z in the Anglo Saxon world and its offshoots. I just cant Xerox corporation is known as Zerox!
A xiphophagus is not a ziphophagus and a xylophonist is not a zylophonist for crying out loud, a bloody xenophobe is not a zenophobe! In retaliation, I will start calling X chromosomes Z chromosomes hereafter!

What a wonderful mutatation that would have been....but, drats, I am afraid that a Zoe is a Zoe not a Xoe :(Thanks for supporting Greece tonight! My heart is beating like crazy. The Czech football team is turbo-driven, they havent lost a friggin' match in over 20 games. A very worthy and intimidating adversary!
