What do you think of the name Darcy? Do you like it, and if so do you think it is better for males or females?

I LOVE DARCY!!!! And it's totally masculine to me (Pride and Prejudice fan here). :)

The only Darcy I 'know' is the one from Pride and Prejudice, so the name is male to me. I really have no opinion on it, I wouldn't use it, but it's ok for others.

I love this on a boy - both because of P&P and because its a family name. Would totally consider using it as a first name, but it would probably be more likely as a middle.
I also love it on a girl, but i'd never use it on a girl. Its a total GP for me.

It's ok but I prefer it for girls and prefer it as Darcey but it's a bit of a GP. I have a feeling that it's going to become very trendy in the next couple of years and that will probably put me off it.

Interesting... in the States, it went through its "peak" in the 60s and 70s. Popped into #98 in N. Ireland last year for girls, but nothing for the boys. However, it's found its way into the Aus. stats for boys, but not girls this decade.

The only Darcy I know is a professor of labour law in his 50s, happily married and the father of two. So, also taking the literary reference into account (you know the one I mean!), I find it comically bizarre on a girl. Luckily I haven't spotted one so far in South Africa, but cultural imperialism being what it is, it's probably only a matter of time.

I don't like it. The name itself is annoying to me. It reminds me of Pride & Prejudice, which I thought was boring and stuffy.

I like it okay; I like the sounds in it. It's not a personal favorite. I associate it with names like Darlene and Marcy - it seems to me to be in that retro style of sound. I knew a girl named Darcy when I was growing up, who was born about 1969. It was somewhat popular for girls in the US in the the sixties and seventies, so I think most people who are old enough to have encountered a few actual Darcys (in the US anyway) associate it as feminine. I think only the younger generation sees it as a "sexy sensitive man" name, mostly from the TV and movie P&P. I think that it is not very manly and would avoid giving it to a boy because only some male personalities can carry it off without it being a liability, IMHO. It is also vaguely pretentious and sassy given the P&P association and the surname-name aspect, and that is why it does not make my list. But it's not obnoxiously pretentious. I also know a toddler girl named Darcy, whose name was inspired by the Smashing Pumpkins bassist.

It's the name of the protagonist in my most recent attempt at writing. :)

i like the name Darcy for a boy, but i'm a huge pride & prejudice fan so that probably has something to do w/ it!

It's ok. I'm somewhat neutral on the name itself, but I usually think girl before guy on it... though I think on a girl, it's a good idea to go w/ Darci in order to distinguish it as fem.

I like the sound of Darcy, but I think it's too feminine for a boy, and too masculine for a girl. It's got nowhere to go.
