In the mighty kingdom of Kriana.
As soon as Mirabelle turned sixteen and reached marriageable age, men old and young began to clamour for her hand. Her dark hair, bright blue eyes, and elfin face had wreaked havoc on the hearts of boys since she was thirteen, and her position as crown princess and future queen of Kriana have made her the most eligible catch in the kingdom. Kat and Arthur made it quite clear that they had no intention of making this choice for Mirabelle, as no one had made the choice for them. Mirabelle knew her choice from the beginning. She chose as her husband Lord Remus of Gwynndale, who she had met at a ball when they were fifteen and fallen very much in love with one another. Remus was not the highest-ranking man who had courted her--foreign princes had sought her hand--but he was kind and loving and full of fun, and he was who Mirebelle wanted. That was enough for her family, and that would have to be enough for everyone else. Mirabelle and Remus married dressed in the traditional blue, which echoed the blue sky they married under. None of the hundreds of guests could remember seeing a couple look so happy. It was obvious how much the two loved one another.
Gloriana has also grown into a beautiful young girl. She is also dark-haired and blue-eyed, though she resembles Arthur more than she does Kat. She has admirers among the boys her age, though she doesn't notice it. She prefers being elbow-deep in books, and Kat likes to say she swallows them whole rather than reading them. She also plays music, and is quite a talented singer and musician under the tutelage of her uncle Thomas. She is a quiet girl, but she is not shy in the least; she merely doesn't talk until she has something to say.
Joss is a favorite around the palace and the city. She loves to ride her favorite filly around the city, making friends and finding things out. She is still quite young, but Kat and Arthur enjoy her enthusiasm and her curiosity. They see a bright future for their adopted daughter, one where she makes herself a great name and helps those around her. She is still very much a child, all bouncing red curls and dimples and big sparkling eyes, but Kat and Arthur cannot help a sigh as they thing how fast she is growing up.
Gabriel and Seraphina have become quite effective partners in crime. They are quite close, and though they look quite different--Gabriel is smaller with his mother's dark-brown hair and blue eyes while Seraphina is quite tall for her age and has lighter brown hair and silvery grey eyes like her father--they are very much alike. Both love the outdoors and planning big schemes, schemes that often put them at odds with palace staff. Kat and Arthur know they should scold them more, but they cannot bring themselves to when they find their schemes so funny themselves.
Theodore is an adorable little seven-year-old and never stops talking. He is always asking questions, talking and chattering. He's too young to really know if people are listening or not, and is content to just run his tongue. He has his father's brown hair and mother's blue eyes, and an irrepressable grin that no one can see and not start smiling themselves. He always seems to be happy and peaceful.
Little Elisabetta's promise for beauty is being realized more and more every day. She looks a lot like Mirabelle, all dark hair and vivid blue eyes and elfin features. She is also amazingly compassionate for a toddler, always wanting to make people feel happy and share what she has. She has many friends among the other palace children, both of the staff and the court. She, like Joss, is a general favorite because of her sweetness and beauty.
Among all the excitement and happiness, though, more trouble from Haarlsgard has surfaced. It seems that Magnus has taken it as a personal offense that his son was passed over for someone of lower rank, though young Christian had not even courted Mirabelle. Kat is worried that war with Haarlsgard may be unavoidable.
