[Opinions] Roxane/Roxanne/Roxana
Well, this is my husband's latest favorite and he seems to think I'm going to allow it. I just don't know. He says only old folks like us immediately think of and have the urge to screech the Police song like Sting: "Roxanne, you don't have to put on the red light. Those days are over. You don't have to sell your body to the night." Also, I would end up calling her Roxie and I'm not sure I like that either.
wdyt and if you do like it, any preference on spelling?

Out of the three you listed in the subject, my favorite is Roxana. I think it's very pretty and elegant. Your husband is probably right about the song, because I've never heard of it (though I have heard of the Police). Roxie is okay for a nickname, but you could call her Xana if you don't like it.
How about Roxana Lillian?

Agreed. I always want to say " You don't have to turn on the red light!" after I hear this name and that song was before my time.
I wouldn't use it for that reason and mainly it just sounds jagged somehow... i don't know what it is but it doesn't seem to feel right.

I like Roxanne and Roxana/Roxanna... I don't like the original sp. of Roxane because in En., it looks too much like Rox-ayn, which is unappealing. I'd use Roxanne in a heartbeat and Roxana's pretty too, but too close for sibs. Would depend on the mn. which of the 2 went better w/ it. I've known very few Roxannes and no Roxannas and none of them seemed to go by Roxie. No sense using Roxie when Roxanne is only 2 syls and sounds WAY better. Never even heard of the song until now. I'd be more inclined to think of the movie Roxanne, which I never got to see, but remember being around. Rox, I can see as a nn, but if you go w/ Roxanne, it's only 2 syls and no longer to say than Roxie, so if you don't like Roxie, Roxanne may be a better choice than Roxana even though both are quite pretty.
i think of alexander the great's wife too...i like the song "Roxane" but i dont think of it when i hear the name
Thanks... have wondered for some time now where the name Roshana came from since I know someone w/ the name, but it's not on BtN.
