I was almost Sarah myself, after my Welsh grandmother Sarah Anne. I've always been glad my mother won the argument, because I've never found the name attractive at all. 'Boring and common' really says it all! I would have been Sally quite cheerfully, though.
I know very many Sarahs, though not all of them are English-speaking so they really aren't evidence. The youngest one I know was born in 2000.
