Help[Opinions] Thoughts on Vienna?
My mom recently told me that she'd love the name Vienna on a granddaughter. I've always liked the sound of it, but I'm looking for some more varied thoughts and opinions on it. Wdyt?

Sausage, "The Bachelor", and a city. But all those associations put behind a decent name. Seeing the popularity rise of Sienna makes Vienna a viable alternative.

"Now with improved pork flavor and vein free!" Are you Italian in any way? If you're not, I would steer clear. If you are Italian, what about Florence or Esperanza or Engracia? Plus, the thought of it being "pop culture" and thought to be classy thanks to "The Bachelor" you could do better. Meh.

It's a city.
It's no more "classy" than London or Paris ¡ust because Mozart lived there for a couple years. City names like this really grate on me if the person using it has never been or has no particular relation to the city; I take Vienna sort of personally because I've been obsessed with the idea of going since I was 15 and am hopefully going there to study this spring.
Imagine for a minute that the city/town you live in is really famous, and that it was a city name before anything else, and that it happens to have trendy sounding syllables; imagine someone on BTN posting about it. Would you feel like they were cheapening it? Would you feel weird at all? If not I guess go for it. I would be irritated though, and I'd be irritated by meeting a Vienna. moreso than London or Paris even, as I don't have a personal connection with those cities

What is more well known, the name Merrill or the series of towns named Merrill? The name, no doubt. The town is not far away from me, and makes a good example.

The name Winnipeg would be an awesome sight to behold. See, I think really obscure choices like that are kinda cool actually. But "big name" cities smack of shallow pretentiousness for me.

You may be right about that. I usually hate big city names but rather like the "obscure choices".

I dunno, dude! I feel like people use Nash sometimes, and I have some female ancestor somewhere named Tennessee. I gotta say I do GP Tennessee pretty heavily.

hmmmmmmmm... Don't think I know of anyone wanting to give a child a name that means "cattle forever". (and w/ kanji, its meaning is right out there for the world to see.

Definitely more of an uppercrust and possibly snobbish name but, with the right middle and last name, is totally usable. I wouldn't associate it with the Bachelor because I've never seen it, so for those of us who aren't as in-touch with reality shows, I think we'd revert to Austria and Mozart when we heard the name.
I love this name on its own, or as a nn for Vivienne.

As long as you stay away from South Africa, all will be well. But what I believe you call a wiener is a Vienna sausage here.

I've heard of Vienna sausage here in the US too, but I've never eaten them. I'd picture Austria and classic music first.

Yes, I watch and am quite invested in that horrible show haha. Anyways, Vienna was the most hated girl in the house on her season so I'm a little turned off by the name. It sounds pretty, but it also has, imho, a hint of snobby bratty-ness in it. It sounds that way to me even *without* the bachelor association. I can't help it- I imagine a little girl who's parents think she is a little princess and is raised to be very entitled.

I'm sure it's a lovely place, but a terrible canned meat.
Sadly, more people know about the canned meat than the place.
I think it would be a nice name, but you can't separate it from the food here in America.

I'm from the US too, and I've heard of Vienna sausage, but the only canned meat I've ever eaten is in spaghetti-os with hot dogs or ground beef in it. There are some Polish people in the area who eat canned hams, and stores carry spam too. Maybe we just have too many farms and readily available fresh meat in my area to care about the canned stuff.

I like it although I've heard that it has been ruined by someone on a reality show. I also know it's gaining popularity so I wouldn't use it.
