A sad news has reverberated through Thaeris. Lady Lucrezia, still an impressive seductress, has been missing. The young and beautiful lady has been seen with many different suitors, but one day she simply disappeared from the face of the earth. Zubia was very worried for her adoptive sister, and Vaza even more so for the only person she had left that is of her own bloodline. A search was conducted, with Valen insisting that he goes and accompany the searchers, and Desmon leading the investigating party. While his father combed the forests, Desmon began to interrogate and collect information. Lucrezia was last seen with a man called Talal, who Vaza recognised as one of Crezia's latest romantic conquests. Rumours had it that Crezia and Talal were planning to elope together. Desmon was shocked: he had always considered Crezia the sort to hold numerous affairs at once; why would she suddenly agree with the plan of marriage?
Having extracted the direction in which Crezia and Talal were seen heading towards, Desmon sent word to his father and joined them on a search for his adopted sister. After a month of frantic searching, Crezia and Talal were finally found - dead. Bloody letters scattered inside their hut seem to suggest that Talal had been enraged to find that Crezia was pregnant - and not with his child. Crezia had then admitted to falsehood, but Talal, blinded with rage, lashed at her and stabbed her to death. Talal's explanatory letter ended with an expression of remorse, one found next to where his body lay, drained of the blood through a cut in the artery.
Desmon was distraught, his father Valen more so. They broughr Crezia's corpse back to Thaeris (and after lots of supplications from Desmon, Talal's corpse was brought too) to be given a proper burial. Vaza was dumbstruck at the sight of her sister's dead body, and for days she never emerged from her bedroom, weeping all day long. Everyone tried to coax her out of it - Valen, Cecilia, Zubia, Desmon, Giovan, Arlet, and even Ezio the younger, but none suceeded. But when Vaza's childhood sweetheart the Prince Samir knocked and refused to leave until she opens the door, she finally relents and pours her heart out to him. It was only a matter of time before Vaza and Samir announced engagement.
In the meanwhile, a new Sul'i'ah is born of Zubia and Michael's union. Melisande Lucrezia, or Melis, is named after her late aunt, but also after the Sul'i'ah Kiara, who has now devoted herself entirely to her studies. Soon after Melis' birth, Desmon's darling Éabha gave birth to twin daughters, Bianca and Gialla, or Anca and Gia, as they are frequently called. Desmon's trips with his mentor Ezio are lessening now that Ezio thinks he should spend more time with his family (noting his own lack of chances to do so before his family's death, something he never told Desmon or Valen before). Sul'i'mi Giovan was also married to the fair Countess Frieda of Sachsen.
