Five and a half years have passed since Arianna the Strong's death, and life has moved on. Knowing how frightened and unprepared for ruling Arianna had been at seventeen, Thomas and the advisors agreed it would be best for him to remove his influence gradually, allowing Rose to continue to learn. Rose gratefully agreed to this, as long as she could decide when she felt she was ready. This came shortly before her twentieth birthday. Her twentieth birthday celebration was also a celebration of her taking full control of the empire. Thomas was happy to step back and live a private life. Not long after he stepped down, he married Esther Millsbrook, a lady's maid who had been a particular friend and confidant of his late wife. The two had been friends for quite some time, and about three years after Arianna's death they both noticed something more growing between them. Neither was comfortable with it--the Regent could not marry a servant, after all, and both felt a sense of betrayel of the woman both had adored. But after a few years passed and Thomas had stepped down, the two had come to realize that they had to do what made them happy. Besides, since Thomas was no longer in the limelight, few really cared who he married. Rose, Lucian, Rachel, Remus, and Giulietta were all supportive, as they all liked Esther and knew Arianna had loved her. Matilda and Caderyn, who only knew their mother through what their siblings and cousins and father had told them, were excited aat his marriage, as they both adored Esther, or Essie, as they call her. Esther has settled into their family quite nicely.

As soon as she was given the reigns and made full empress, Rose and Enrique consummated their marriage. The two are very much in love now, something the long wait proved to them. Not long afterwards, Rose found herself pregnant! She has recently given birth to a baby girl, who she named Silvia, a name she and Enrique both love, Lily to continue on the flower theme of her own name, Arianna for her mother, and Theodora for the empress before her. Everyone is thrilled with the addition and the continnuation of the royal line. Lucian is particularly pleased, as it means he is in very little danger now of having to rule. His dreams lie elsewhere, the sea to be precise. He has traveled with Enrique and Rose to the colony where Enrique was born, and travel agreed with him. He wants to join the royal navy, to travel to all teh distant parts of the empire and beyond it. Everyone is proud of his ambition and wish it would rub off on Rachel. She has matured into quite a beautiful young lady, but is also quite a flirt. Her looks and title send many fortune-seekers her way. Thomas is worried that, with her inexperience and easily-flattered nature, she'll be off with someone less than worthy.
