Yuri and Grete met in Ukraine (where Yuri was born) when she visited with some friends. He is a police officer and she is was an elementary school teacher in Norway (where she is from), but now she teaches in a Ukrainian school. They have been married for a little over a year and Grete has not seen her family since the wedding, so Yuri surprised her with a trip to Norway!

While working as a police officer, Yuri has also been taking classes at the university to be a chef. He loves to cook and now that he has finished his schooling, he has decided to quit his job as a police officer and open up his on cafe!

It has been four years since Yuri and Grete got married. They have talked about starting a family, but they were never quite ready. Now that Yuri's restaurant is going well and Grete's teaching job is flexible enough for her to work part-time, they have decided to adopt. They met with an adoption agency and were matched with a 5 year old boy from Peru named Hector Andrés. He has brown hair and chocolate brown eyes. Grete is so happy to be a mother and Hector has settled into his new home wonderfully!

Yuri and Grete love being parents! Hector is doing very well in school and loves to help Yuri at the cafe. He has made several friends and plays with them every day after school. Grete loves seeing Yuri with their son and she was so happy when she found out she was pregnant and it was a girl! Their little daughter was born on the same day Hector came to Ukraine. She has brown hair, green eyes like her mor (mother in Norwegian), and her name is Flora Nanna Zelenko (Flora after the place in Norway where Grete is from).

This year Yuri and Grete took a trip to Norway so her parents and siblings could meet Hector and Flora. The children were spoiled with tons of candy and treats and Flora took her first steps with the help of her Gammlemor (grandmother in Norwegian)!

Grete has decided to quit her job teaching to be home to take care of Hector and Flora. She loves teaching, but it is so special for her to be there for her children that she knew she needed to quit. Her students were very sad and made her lots of goodbye cards. She is very happy with her decision and loves spending the day with 2 year old Flora and picking 8 year old Hector up from school.

Grete received a phone call from her parents in Norway and they told her that her father has cancer. She was heartbroken and flew to her hometown to be with them for the last few weeks of his life. Hector and Flora are also very upset about losing their Gammlefar (grandfather in Norwegian).

Shortly after Grete's father died, she and Yuri decided to adopt another child. It took about a year for them to be matched with one, but their adoption agency found a gorgeous and very chubby 6 month old boy with brown hair and brown eyes named Joaquin Miguel in Costa Rica. Hector is very excited to have a brother and Flora loves helping feed and dress the new baby!

It has been a busy year for the Zelenko family. Hector is now 11, Flora is now 5, and Joaquin is now 1. Yuri's cafe is flourishing and Grete loves being home with Joaquin while Hector and Flora are in school. Only a few weeks after they brought Joaquin home, Grete found out she was pregnant. They are so happy to welcome their little blond haired, brown eyed daughter, Oksana Havet Zelenko (Havet is the Norwegian word for ocean). Flora is especially excited to have a little sister!

After thinking it through for a long time, Yuri and Grete have decided to move to Norway to take care of Grete's mother, Hege Abrahamsson. She is getting very old and none of Grete's siblings can afford to take care of her. Yuri sold his cafe to his assistant chef and has decided to open a new one by their new home in Norway. Hector and Flora are sad to be leaving their school and friends, but they are looking forward to having their Gammlemor living with them.

Yuri and Grete have added another child to their family! They have adopted a 5 year old boy from Jamaica. He has brown hair, brown eyes, and his name is Demetrius Jamar Zelenko. He and Joaquin get along great and love playing together! Hector has also been very helpful walking him to school and everyone is so happy to have him in their family!

Life is going really well for the Zelenko family. Grete is so happy to be back in Norway and Yuri and the children love it too. Grete's mother, Hege, loves living with her daughter and seeing all of her grandchildren grow up. Her health has improved a lot since they moved there! The entire family was so excited when Grete got pregnant with their 6th child. They found out it was a boy, which Flora and Oksana weren't happy about because they wanted a sister, but they are still excited. The pregnancy went very well and their little boy was born very healthy. He has dark blond hair and light green eyes and his name is Søren Viktor Zelenko (Søren after Grete's father and Viktor after the Ukrainian president).

With three adults and six children, the Zelenko house was feeling way too small, so Yuri and Grete bought a new home a few miles from their old one. Their new house has a lot of land for the children to run around on and it is still close to Yuri's cafe.

It has been 4 years since they moved to Norway and they haven't seen Yuri's parents, Pavlo and Vasylna Zelenko, since they moved. They saved up some money and were finally able to take a trip with all of their children and Grete's mother to Ukraine for a three week visit. Yuri's parents were so excited to meet Demetrius and Søren, and to see how much the other children have grown!

Yuri and Grete's 7th child was born this year! Kateryna Odessa Zelenko (after the Ukrainian president's wife and the city in Ukraiine) has brown hair and green eyes. All of the children are very happy, but not nearly as excited as Flora and Oksana are to have a baby sister! Yuri's cafe is doing great and he is thinking about opening another one in a nearby city. Grete stays busy taking care of Søren and Kateryna while the older children are in school. And Grete's mother is enjoying life with her daughter, son-in-law, and her seven beautiful grandchildren!
