Keats thinks that Julian, Adrian, Trace, and even Gabriel--all names Grace suggested--are too feminine for their son. He likes Daniel or Samuel, which Grace finds boring. Finally they settle on Peter, though Grace isn't thrilled with the way it sounds with Alexander. She suggests Vernon as a middle name, which Keats agrees isn't feminine, even if it's weird.
This time around, Silas and Carolyn have found a word name they both like--Wade--for a middle name. They like a lot of Biblical names for first names, but they all seem too popular (Zachary, Isaac, Michael, Matthew, Luke). They decide on the out-of-favor Paul. They are not thrilled with the sound of Paul Wade, but are in love with both names, so they go for it.
Jewel fell in love with the name Rosemary, but nothing seemed to go with it. Even when she was born, she was just Rosemary Flores, but they really wanted a middle name, so they gave her the name Rosemary April, using the month of her birth. (They didn't want Spring--too corny, especially with Summer--and Saturday just didn't sound right. The hospital was St. Mary's, the doctor was Dr. Xiang Wu. They considered Mercy--sounded odd with Rosemary--and Jewel didn't want to use her first name for a middle name).
