Writing Prompt: Barely weeks after the birth of The Princess Royal, The Queen found herself pregnant again. This pregancy was difficult and the baby, a boy, was born prematurely. Sadly, the doctors made it clear that the new Crown Prince would not survive long. He was quickly baptised and died the day after he was born.
The death of this son affected the Royal couple deeply. It was also a matter of state, because Princess Cecily, despite being a healthy child, was the only person who could succeed her mother. Fears of Queen Sophia dying in childbirth made it clear that she had to overcome her grief and give the country a new heir.
Sophia and Frederick took strenght from each other and from Cecily and Axel (whom, after his mother's death, was loved by the queen as if he was her son). Shortly after Princess Cecily's second birthday, the Queen found herself pregnant again. She took extra precautions in this pregancy, and although nobody said it out loud, the whole kingdom was hoping she would safely deliver a son to secure the succession and the Crown. In the end, she gave birth to twin girls, named Laetitia and Beatrice - both names meaning "happiness".
While Sophia and Frederick are delighted with their small family, pressure from the outside forces them to try to have a boy. Frederick is worried about the health of his life and would prefer too see his daughter Cecily become Queen rather than risking Sophia die in childbirth. The Queen, however, is well aware of her responsibilities and decides it's her duty to try to have a son. She knows how difficult it his for her to be a female ruler, and would prefer to avoid instability and succesion wars in the Kingdom.
