[Opinions] Miley.
I have a friend (two, really) named Miley. But one is a girl (she's sixteen, I think? Maybe 15. 15 or 16.. anyway), and the other is a boy (he's 19 or 20)I like Miley on a boy, because it just sounds... right. Like Miles, but different. But on a girl? Miley Cyrus screams out. True, since she's 16 she wasn't named after Cyrus (Miley Cyrus was a three-year-old) but still, it's the first thing everyone says when she introduces herself."Hi, I'm Miley."
"Oh! Like Miley Cyrus?"
"No, like me. Miley B____."
"Oh.. well that's kind of a weird name."She even told me the other day that some one she met had told her that her name didn't sound right on her because it was "Miley Cyrus' name". Anyway, on to my point. What do you think of naming your kid (boy or girl) Miley? I know there have been alot of posts before, but here's another one. And if you did name your child Miley, how would you react to all the "OMG Miley Cyrus!" people?

Sure! Miley is my ultimate favourite name for a girl, with the middle name Kathryn! To be honest, I DID first hear this name from Miley Cyrus. But it sounds like an awesome name to have!

I know a Maile (girl). I don't even think about the Miley Cyrus association because the spelling is so different.

I know a 19-year-old named Mileigh, so, yeah.Anyway, I think it sounds...babyish and weird. If I DID have a child named Miley...well, that would NEVER happen, so if I adopted a child named Miley, or one happened to be living with me (like a niece), I'd just respond, "Yes, Miley Cyrus" and leave it at that.

It's not a boys' name to me at all. Because of Miley Cyrus, the name screams "girl."I would never use it, though. It's so closely tied to an entertainer, it'd be like naming your kid Madonna or Cher.

I honestly think it makes a cute nickname for something more formal:Miles
Michael
Amalia
Emmeline
Amaia
Madeline
Millicentor a double fn:
Mary-Isla
Mary-Iris
Mary-Ione
Mary-Irene
Mary-Isabelle
Mary-IvyOn it's own I think it's too cutesy and it screams "Disney star".

I really like Maile (prn Miley) It's a Hawaiian name and I think it's a great name. Honestly, Miley Cyrus is a fad. She's a tween star. By the time I had kids and by the time my kids were old enough to care about their names, Miley Cyrus would be in her 30s and would be a thing of the past. People my kid's age won't know or care who Miley Cyrus is. I think for the people CURRENTLY with the name Miley would get a lot of comments simply because Cyrus IS popular right now. This is her era. As for future generations... I don't think it would be a problem. No 40-year-old who worshiped Miley as a teen would say "That's MILEY CYRUS'S name" because they probably wouldn't even think about her anymore. It's like Mary-Kate and Ashley from the 90s. Who would ever look at a 3year old named Mary-Kate and say, "Oh thats the Olsen twin's name." They might have said it back in '96, but now not so much.

A friend of mine and her husband were debating the whole Miley Cyrus thing when they wanted to honor their third child (and last) with her maiden name, Myles. They were planning to use Myles for a boy and were hesitant about using Miley for a girl. They kept their fingers crossed for a boy lol but the ultrasound showed team pink. Drat! Miley Faith it was and they decided that they, and everyone else, would just have to get over the fact their daughter's name would forever be associated with the teenie-bop queen. They are good defenders, though, and they have a legit explanation to back up their decision.Like my friends, if the name had superb meaning to us then I would use it and gladly defend it. P.S. I do like Miley for a boy ;o)

Another great reason to use classic names on a birth certificate. Cute nns come and go. Had her parents named her Michele / Michelina, Emilie, etc., she would have had the option of using a different nn, or go by the formal name. Not that she needs to. She had the name first. But I can see how irritating it would be. And Ms Cyrus seems to be dressing for the tabloids lately so we may never hear the end of her. I feel for your friend.

If it makes it better at all, her real name isn't even Miley, it's Destiny Hope.

I believe her real name is Miley. I think she changed her name to Miley in 2005 ?

I heard that too, but I don't remember the year. Either way, the only way she could have been named after Miley Cyrus is if she was born in the last few years. Maybe she can say that Ms. Cyrus stole the name from her.

Yes, I'm such a name-nerd I did know that. I had forgotten her legal name though. I believe her father called her Smiley as a child because she smiled all the time. Smiley morphed into Miley. But Miley is still so closely associated with Ms Cyrus that the Destiny Hope angle doesn't help, in my mind at least. On the positive side, her parents didn't try to mangle the spelling of Destiny or Hope. And the nn Miley is cute -- fetching even. It's the over-commercialization that comes to mind when I think of her career that bothers me.

I think both that friend who's a girl named Miley and Miley Cyrus are the same age. I would avoid this name like the plague.

Miley is a little girly, no? Of course it reminds me of Miley Cyrus. Not thinking about Miley Cyrus, I still don't like the name much.

I think it is just babyish on either gender. I met a young woman named Maile that was pronounced almost the same, and that's alright. If I ... well, I wouldn't name my child Miley. Let's say I adopted one. If someone said "OMG hey, like Miley Cyrus!" I'd say, "yes, just like Miley Cyrus," and let 'em make of it whatever they will. Who cares.

Miley dosen't sound right on a boy, well that's what I think.Maybe in a couple of years time when Miley Cyrus has dissapeared I might consider using the name but if she is famous for the rest of her life I would never use it beacuse I wouldn't like it linking to her.I would probably tell the fans that I like the name Miley and she's not named after Miley Cyrus but I probably would never name my kids Miley.
