I have to say I'm totally surprised by the fact that Americans seem not to have ever heard Cosima (going by comments made when Claudia Schiffer's daughter was born and now with this BA). The name's certainly not common, but I'd hardly consider it obscure (especially considering the large Italian emigration to the US). And the fact that Kuzma and Damjan (Cosmas/ Cosimo and Damian) are well known saints.

I had heard of the name Cosima since childhood, of course. I just hadn't heard it on a real person until Cosima von Bulow.
But yes, I imagine for many in the U.S. they are hearing it for the first time. Pop culture pushes names like Kaylee and Neveah while ignoring gems like Cosima. Sad.
Ah well, Ms Copola and her dh are doing their part to spread the good names around. :-)
