[Opinions] Sailor
A few years back, it seemed like a lot of people had Sailor on their lists of favorite girls' names. Does anyone else think that Sailor is a bad name? I also remember people using alternate spellings like Saylor, Sayler, Saelor, and Sailer. The name itself seems boyish and trendy. I don't care for it. At first, I caught myself liking it but now it just seems entirely trendy.

I love the name Sailor. I've never known anyone with the name, or even anyone who knew someone... except I think Christie Brinkleys daughters name is Sailor. Anyways, as much as I like it I could never use a name like that. When people ask 'oh what's her name?' and you say 'Sailor.' no doubt you'd get plenty of rude comments or nasty looks.
Saylor is a surname, not just a respelling of the word. (Like Taylor is not a respelling of "tailor".) If I remember correctly, the surname Saylor means "acrobat".
Anyway, I don't mind the name but I admit it's *very* trendy, so not something I'd use in RL.

I don't like it at all. It seems extremely masculine to me.

Ugh...(m)
I can't STAND this name. We listed our least favorites recently but I forgot about this one somehow. I just can't understand how anyone could find it to be an attractive name for a girl (haven't they heard of 'cursing like a sailor'? much less what else sailors do...), and spelling the word wrong doesn't make it any more feminine or "cute" imo at all.

Unless you're child is going to look like Christie Brinkley (gorgeous, blonde, & tall), I wouldn't use it but Ms. Brinkley could & did and it definitely suits her daughter. I only like it spelled in its traditional form (as I do with all word name) so SAILOR it is for me. Ultimately, I like it quite a bit but more so on someone else's child.
Definitely a bad name. I suppose it could be cute as a nn for a tomboyish little girl (like Scout), but it's not given name material at all.
I agree. It could work as a nickname for a tomboy but otherwise, it's not good.
i love Sailor! for boy or girl!
I personally wouldn't name my child that
